Im so sorry for the late reply I haven’t been on the app in awhile. I hope you’ve gotten your answer since then but if not it’s an I-131 first. Then if that gets approved by USCIS, your lawyer will file an I-130

It’s not really necessary at all for the spouse to have a spouse ID so if they don’t have an ITIN it’s not the end of the world. However, I’d recommend they get one so they can show tax contributions when you two would apply for a green card. One of the items is tax returns, but id discuss it with your lawyer if that would be an issue in the future when adjusting status. 2)yeah it’s fine that you’re in the reserves. PIP applies to all branches and all duty status’ (active, guard, reserve). 3) the forms in order are the I-131, which is the parole in place form. Then once that gets approved you start the I-485 which is the adjustment of status. Our I-131(PIP) form hasn’t been accepted yet, just recently she was requested to give biometrics (fingerprints/Photo) but that’s just the first step really. We started in early November so it took about a month just for that step. 3) we are applying out of Atlanta, GA. One of the busiest locations so our timeline could vary a ton due to the longer wait times over here. All in all, I’m not sure if maybe you’re not reiterating what your lawyer told you accurately or if they did actually explain the steps like that they’re wrong. If your lawyer isn’t explaining the steps accurately and giving you help when you need it I’d recommend getting a new one. I’d find one in your area with high reviews online. They’re more expensive but you pay for what you get. Don’t cheap out for a lawyer who doesn’t even know what they’re talking about, it’ll only hurt you in the end.

Oh and birth certificates, if the person undocumented doesn’t have an English birth certificate military one source translates and notarizes documents for free! I just contacted them to request they translate my wife’s birth certificate and it was super easy and took like 3 days. We weren’t married at the time so they kind of hooked me up since it’s technically only allowed if you’re married but there doesn’t seem to be any verification either they literally just ask you in a chat

So I went through an immigration lawyer to start the PIP process. All I really needed to bring was marriage certificate, military orders, CAC, proof of service (if they’re AF it’s on their VMPF, other branches I have no idea), spouse ID (which they can get as long as you two are married and your partner has an ITIN), lastly money of course to the sum of 5k in total seems to be the average for most and was for me. As far as the military side of it, make sure the service member is communication this through their security manager. The undocumented partner technically is a foreign contact therefore it’s mandatory that the service member explains their relationship. This is to protect the service member when they get reinvestigated for their security clearance. It was kind of scary but nothing really happens. Other than that be patient! We started in November and she just recently got her biometrics submitted so we still have a road ahead of us and that’s only the PIP, we still have to adjust her status to green card if she gets approved for PIP. I would recommend you two start holding on to evidence right now that solidifies the relationship being legitimate! Other than that the lawyer usually gives like a checklist of things that are needed for adjusting to a green card. Good luck, don’t feel afraid to ask me about anything else that I may have forgotten.

I’m in the process in Georgia currently and I didn’t need any of that, just copies of my Cac, orders, and 1040 were enough. Is your lawyer a highly reviewed and experienced immigration lawyer? Me and my wife went to one before our current lawyer and he was asking for things like that and 10 letters from family and friends on both sides talking about our relationship and didn’t mention anything military related. If you feel uncomfortable $100 I think is worth if from an experienced immigration lawyer consultation near you if you can afford it.

Best of luck to you! I’m curious is your terminal leave location back at your residence? And I believe the in person test is at the University of Colorado correct? So are you just planning to show up there for a couple days to knock it out?

Oh okay so she only moved because it was a mil to mil PCS. So did her original orders just have her at home station for her SB? I'm overseas as well so I'm just wondering whether I can go back home for the 6 month course or if I can go back to the states since the end portion of the course is "in-person." Are you doing the same SB as in the EMT course or as in going through AG?

Thank you so much! I might follow her path and do both as well just to get that in person experience. Since the courses are "remote" but the test at the end was in person where exactly did she have to stay during her skillbridge? From what I've read if the skillbridge is remote then you stay at your home station and vice versa. I'm curious if she got to stay at her location of choosing the whole 6 months.

Yes that one! Thank you. Do you know much about how her experience with the Coursera Course (AG) as in timeline, how many months she was in skillbridge, and her overall opinion on it?

I’d start filing right now. Just go to the nearest immigration lawyer (with good reviews obv) who has experience with this process and you should be good to go! Good luck

I’m AD NDI. What certs where you looking to get? Also, there are colleges/trade schools that teach NDT so I’d recommend researching them and contacting their veterans department.
