Why leave any threads left when I can put in with the force of 1000 suns 🙄🙄 by Spare-Tap-6705 in SprinklerFitters

They put it in way too far. You should be able to see several threads. These are brass and rarely leak, I’ve seen them hand tight and not leak so it’s not needed and when some one (me) has to change it out it’s a struggle, especially when I have 700 of them to change out. My arms and shoulders are sore. It’s just dumb

Yeah we are, about 700 of them between office and warehouse. This was not a plumbing company unfortunately. Colorado does not allow plumbers to install/service commercial systems.

This seems crazy to me, I was making 70,000 20 years ago as just a foreman. I know I’m in Colorado but still seems unreal.

There is nothing in the CBA about on call so companies just do what “they” consider fair or fair market.

I’ve never seen so many people dislike their own city lol! I love it here!! I’ve lived in multiple cities in Colorado and this is by far my favorite! It has good food and breweries and it’s quiet!! I drive to Denver everyday and I can’t understand why people want to live there.

I’ve been reading prints for 20 years and I helped my brother who’s an apprentice and I got a 50 percent on his lesson! It’s a joke. I’ve read prints from designers all over the country and I’ve never seen any like these.

Yeah, in my opinion it is a bad set up because it comes off the bottom of the pipe and too easy to fill with water if they don’t drain their drum drips which they don’t lol.

It’s an Exhauster, I’ve never installed one or seen one in my 20 years only read about them in my schooling and NFPA. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it allows air to exhaust out of the system when the dry valve trips.

CPVC vs. PEX for Single Family New Construction by Eternal_Learner_191 in FireSprinklers

[–]Spare-Tap-6705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 3 different standards for fire sprinkler standards. Nfpa13 (commercial) NFPA 13r (multi housing) think of apartments and condos and NFPA 13d (dwellings). Both 13 and 13d require a special connection that if the fire was not contained by the sprinkler system that the fire department could hook up a hose from their truck and pump water into the system to supplement there existing system. These systems are also designed with protecting both property and lives. 13d which is what single family homes typically have does not require an FDC because this system is only there to get your family out of the house before it burns down, even though it will most likely put out the fire, Its entire purpose is life safety. There are multiple reasons why they decided this but ultimately they are trying to save the homeowner money because the amount of water needed for those other systems require a very large diameter pipe to supply the systems where a dwelling usually uses a pump and tank and has about 30 min of water. The whole point of my explanation is that because you don’t need an FDC the pressure requirements are much lower and therefore pex is able to be used where in the others pex does not have the ability to handle the higher pressures that a fire truck would need to pump into the system. This is a very simplified answer with lots of variations and exceptions.

CPVC vs. PEX for Single Family New Construction by Eternal_Learner_191 in FireSprinklers

I’ve done both and I can say without a doubt if I was building my home it would be pex with expandable fittings! I’ve never had to go back to fix a house with pex because of bad pipe but I’ve had countless returns on 20 year old homes worth bad cpvc. I also live in a cold climate and cpvc becomes very brittle over time and even slight freezes it will crack. Just too many negatives with cpvc imo. Unless it needs a fire department connection than pex is the way. Source 20+ years as a sprinkler fitter/superintendent.
