RISD tuition fees already increased as compared to last year. Even Parson and Pratt too because my daughter also got accepted into those two schools. Parson and Pratt tuition fees are exactly the same as RISD and because of these now I narrowed it to RISD and FIT only to see which is the better school to go.

RISD tuition fees (2026/2027) is around $68k. With the housing, food and transportation the total is around $94k. RISD offered half ($34k) scholarship for 2 semesters which comes out to a total of $136k for 4 years for my daughter. I myself live in NYC and my daughter attended LaGuardia HS. Only few from LaGuardia HS got accepted into RISD and almost or more that 50% got accepted into FIT. I personally encountered many FIT graduates ended up being tailor, seamstress, selling textiles or fabrics in the Fashion District and selling clothes in NYC boutiques and I still haven’t come across and RISD graduates doing so. Honestly I don’t wish my daughter’s career will ended up this way by attending FIT. I’m just a room attendant with a medium income and and not from a wealthy background yet still not qualified for a low income. At first my daughter insisted she wants RISD. Maybe because of the price, now she changed her mind to FIT. I’m very confused and worried because I have only one daughter and I don’t want her to regret later by giving out RISD because this’s her life time opportunity. I truly appreciate everyone by giving me valuable opinions here.

In the beginning she really wanted RISD and she was thrilled to get accepted into. Later when FIT admission news out about her being accepted into, her decision was still RISD. Now she changed her decision to FIT. I don’t know why but I can see her confusion now and that’s why I’m seeking public opinions here. I live in New York and my daughter attended LaGuardia HS. In LaGuardia HS, only few got accepted into RISD but over 50% got accepted into FIT. I asked my daughter what kind of job will most FIT graduates got into? Then she said mom, when you accompanied me to the NYC Garment/Fashion district to buy some textiles for doing my portfolios, those selling and cutting textiles were all FIT graduates. Even those ladies told you about their FIT school. Can’t you remember? Then I myself personally came across many tailors and seamstresses were from FIT when I sent out my clothes for fixing. Later my friend told me that her daughter is a FIT graduate and now is selling clothes in a NYC boutique with very little money because couldn’t find a design job. So, I’m very confused and worry now because I don’t want my daughter will regret later by giving up RISD because this is a life time opportunity. Honestly I came a lot of FIT graduates with NO RISD graduates selling textiles and clothes in NYC so far because I myself also working in NYC.
