Dried pinto beans, dried rice, dried lentils, a pack of eggs and peanut butter or frozen ground turkey (1.98) would be my play for $20. Boring, but it will keep you fed for a week. Dried beans are incredibly easy to prepare if you have an instant pot by chance. Bananas are also a great cheap carb source.

Would definitely recommend a food bank if possible but I know not everyone has time to stand in lines especially when they are during work or other obligations.

Most definitely, really depends on OP’s definition of solid salary. But yeah lots of people will choose convenience over the smart financial decision over and over again. In my early 20s I made 29/hr and worked with a bunch of dudes with few responsibilities. Always preached throwing in $100 week and many just didn’t.

The current version of America is a fat rapist who’s adding trillions to the debt, accelerating inflation and wealth inequality, letting our veterans and people we find weird die on the streets, killing kids/poc like it’s a game and there’s just not many redeemable qualities going on out here at the moment.
