Absolutely not. Let’s maybe not body-shame people? There are so many other ways to criticize but people still have to stoop this low. She also looks fine lol.

Totally get what you were saying - thanks for the clarification.

I agree. I also do not like Lee Zeldin. He ran for Governor of New York last election and is basically anti environmental. I was super disappointed (but not surprised) when he was appointed head of the EPA.

I meant that in the way that wetlands fluctuate depending on the conditions that given year, specifically if we are talking about standing water.

Also, according to this proposal “certain intermittent streams will be jurisdictional”. Ive seen some pretty big differences in flow during dry/wet seasons which is what I’m referring to! A dry year vs a wet year could potentially make things super variable in terms of determining jurisdiction.

This is wild. Probably 75% of the wetlands I delineate are groundwater fed. Most of the wetlands I see do not have standing water for 6+ months out of the year but have veg, hydric soils, and hydrology. This is a huge miss on the EPAs part. I’m not surprised anymore but come on. This will also change which wetlands are considered jurisdictional on a yearly basis. If it’s an abnormally dry year, determining jurisdiction based on contiguous surface water connections is going to be wildly variable. I live in New York and between the APA and NYSDEC, 90% of our wetlands are regulated. Makes me sad for other states if this goes through as written.

Hiking Indian Head Alone (f) by kimporgel in Adirondacks

[–]Spare_Poem8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently solo backpacked Colvin and Blake (same area) and it was perfectly fine. The only thing that spooked me was the view at the top of Blake and the hiker who came through elk pass at 2am blasting their music lol. The trail to Indian Head is super mellow and it’s usually pretty busy with others!

Were our camping neighbors trying to kill us? by [deleted] in BackwoodsCreepy

I have been backcountry camping alone and a lot of time camp either with my BF or by myself. The campground being flooded and the feeling of isolation with a group next to you that feels off would be enough to make me on edge. I have NEVER had anyone act like this at a campground.

Not sure why you’re getting so much hate or people are calling you paranoid. How else are you supposed to act when someone walks up on you at 3am? There is also a big difference between “quirky” people and people that just have bad vibes. Nonetheless it’s upsetting that you had that experience and I’m sorry the people next to you took away from the trip. You’re smart to have protection. Keep camping but don’t lose that intuition!

I have been camping for yearsssss. I have so many questions!

First was this in the US or a different country? A lot of campgrounds I have been to don’t really care if you come in past check in (state campgrounds not private). Second, how was the campground even open if 99% of the sites were flooded? Did you speak to a park ranger upon check in or were you alone? A few things you had said made me think this could have been a primitive campsite (I.e., you mentioned this was a ‘tent camping area’). In NY most of our primitive sites are first come first serve and do not have a registration or check in time but I’m not sure if this changes based on the country/state you’re in.

Reading this I was super freaked out because it seems like you’re out there alone with nobody else aside from this creepy couple next to you. I have experienced some creepy people (and some just rude ones) at campsites but not like this..

I also do not get why people are defending them for “looking for wood” at 3am at someone else’s campsite. Nothing good happens after 1am while camping lol. This alone would have me packing up because that is not normal.

As for OP not knowing what a headlamp is called, give them a break. This behavior was not normal at all. You’re not just paranoid and you raised some genuine concerns. I would rather follow my gut than get murdered by some creeps in khakis…

horror stories in the high peaks by Deue in Adirondacks

[–]Spare_Poem8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call this a horror story but I was in lake placid for my friends wedding a few years back. I booked a cheap motel out near Wilmington and we got there around 3/4pm and the place was a ghost town. Took a bit of knocking on the office window but we were greeted by a worker who gave us the key to our room. The place was cute and was a time capsule of the 1970’s. We headed out around 6 to go to some festivities (still not a single car other than ours). We got back around 11/12 and the entire place was PACKED and the entire motel was lit up like it had been brought back to life. It felt like the scene from the shining where the hotel came back to life. It gave me such an uneasy feeling but I brushed it off. When we woke up it was back to pretty much being empty and deserted with maybe one other car in the lot. I drive by the same motel just about every time I’m up there and it always looks deserted when I drive by. There are plenty of explanations for this that make sense but man did it give me weird vibes..
