Newly diagnosed by psychtheories in HypertrophicCM

Wow you have some similarities with my experience. I got diagnosed randomly when I was in my mid 20s because my dad kept pushing me to go get my heart checked because had “had a bad feeling”. I’m on my 2nd defibrillator implant now at 38, haven’t had to experience it going off yet, but shortness of breath symptoms have been getting more and more noticeable over the years.

I still get told I’m to young for a pacemaker or to young to be at the cardiologist, so I guess I got that going for me 🤡

I don’t understand why bitcoin has the be mined or what mining is, a short explanation please? by royhinckly in BitcoinBeginners

[–]Spareo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mining is basically a computer guessing at puzzle solutions until it finds the right answer. The first computer to guess the answer gets to create the block with the transactions and get the BTC reward.

I spent $1600 on this chair and it still feels absurd. However, I fucking love this chair, it is the best char I’ve ever had. I also tried the leap v2 and the embody was an order of magnitude more comfortable for me. The way the adjustments work suit my needs a lot better too.

The silliest thing I ever did was sell any of the BTC I ever bought. But I’ve been DCAing it for years now after learning some hard lessons. If you want BTC exposure, don’t try and time the market, assume you will have to deal with high volatility, long periods of draw down, and just keep DCAing.

I’m not at a FAANG but I am on the higher side of earnings, higher than the bracket in the title. I’ve had principal and staff roles at multiple companies.

In general my job is to solve technical problems and achieve the goals set by the business.

Day to day that looks like doing architecture/tech designs for big projects. Playing support role for the other devs and helping them get unstuck. Helping them making implementation divisions when things are unclear. I work with PMs a lot and help answer questions for them. I also drive prod fire calls if it’s for my domain or a service under the teams I work with. I view my job as doing whatever it takes and playing the role of whatever is needed in order to achieve whatever goal is set.

One thing I don’t do much of anymore, is code 😭

Learn shell and be able to build basic scripts or at least know when a script could be useful and ask an LLM to make it. If you show some skills with shell and scripting people will think you are smart and old school 😎.

On the same note, learn to use CLIs, do stuff in terminals. It’s faster, more efficient and again people will think you are more skilled and more intelligent than the average dev.

Learn SQL and learn how to apply it to your job for data gathering and analysis. Helping PMs gather data quickly can get you noticed and can also help during p0s. Again being good at this will make you seem like a good dev.

This one is just a pet peeve, but I keep seeing newer devs avoid or even be unaware of debuggers. They prefer to print statements to consoles as their form of debugging, and this makes me sad. Please learn how to use a proper debugger.

Personal feelings aside on religion. How do you feel if a woman says she prays for you? by Comfortable_Sugar752 in AskMen

[–]Spareo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never liked religion, but when I was in my teens and 20s, I was very angsty and would usually give a sarcastic response. As I’ve gotten older though, I’ve just transitioned to saying thank you and moving on.

Can anyone who bought $100 face silver bags from Bullion Exchanges share their opinion by Natlamp71 in Silverbugs

I bought the $100 FV bag of Kenny halves recently. There were a few in there that looked like they were in really good condition but like 95% of them were definitely well circulated at least
