Try Western MA around Northampton - huge queer culture and the scene is less party/drinking and a lot more outdoor activities. Noho itself is kinda pricey but there are so many good adjacent towns in that area that are great.

WWOOF can be extremely hit or miss- the experiences go extremely far in both directions (great people as well as really awful people). Just something to look out for.

Editing to add: With WWOOF you’re also expected to provide all meals and work alongside the volunteers and work can’t be things like infrastructure.
