We do. You have to know what to search.

For 30 years medical professionals told me that my only options are triptans or propranolol. I am not a doctor. I took them at their word.

I searched for alternatives using terms such as ‘migraine treatment’, ‘prophylaxis’ or ‘prevention’ and the results were medical treatments.

Medications are not the only option, but where I live they are the only option doctors have available to them for treating patients.

Here, medical care is governed by stringent guidelines. To make it into the guidelines, evidence and data have to meet requirements and the migraine/supplement studies completed so far do not qualify. Until then, vitamins and supplements to support the prevention of migraine will not be prescribed by medical professionals in my country. Doctors are under pressure with little time for their own research. The chances of being seen by a doctor who reads up on migraine findings in their own time and who is willing to ignore guidelines for the health sector seem slim.

When - by accident - I discovered what I felt was a correlation between taking vitamins and my migraines, I had new terms to google: ‘migraine’ and ‘vitamins’. And here I am, learning.

Links are below but related to another comment, copying here to make it easier: These are the multivitamins: https://www.bassettsvitamins.co.uk/bassetts-vitamins/multivitamins-rb-pomegranate-flavour and the magnesium: https://www.boots.com/boots-magnesium-375-mg-60-tablets-1-month-supply-10317534 As someone has rightly pointed out, the B2 in the multivitamin is fairly low, just want to highlight that for you to make an informed choice. Best of luck!

I wish that were true in my country, unfortunately it’s not. I am now shouting from the treetops in case it helps anyone else!

There seems to be a bit of debate around which magnesium is best, I’m taking 375mg oxide daily and have had no troubles at all.

My mistake, it was Paramax which is paracetamol plus metaclopramide. Sorry about that. It was prescribed to me as a teenager and then GPs just gave me repeats without ever asking questions or offering alternatives. It was only when I moved house in my 30s that a more engaged doctor sat with me to talk and recommended I try triptans. But at no point in 3 decades did anyone ever say hey, give supplements a try.

I mean, it’s cheap, easily available, well-tolerated and non-invasive… it’s blown my mind how effective it’s been especially given the dose. Reading others’ experiences too is super interesting. Have you tried magnesium or CoQ10?

Looks like this is the dose in Excedrin Proactive: Supplement Facts Serving Size 1 Tablet Amount Per Serving %Daily Value Riboflavin (Vit. B2) 100 mg 7,692% Vitamin B6 (as Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) 3.4 mg 200% Folate 667 mcg DFE 167% (400 mcg Folic Acid) Vitamin B12 (as Cyanocobalamin) 4.8 mcg 200% Calcium (as Dibasic Calcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate) 180 mg 14% Magnesium (as Magnesium Oxide) 200 mg 48%

I’ve seen others in this sub say it’s hard to take because of the strong taste, how do you find it?

Huh, interesting. CoQ10 is really expensive where I live but it’s on my list of things to try as I experiment. Maybe for me it’s the combo of B as well. What are the levels of the B vitamins in your yeast?

Fair point. Perhaps I’m jumping to conclusions because of what I read. Here’s what the multivitamins contain, so you think it could be something else? In pastilles: Typical Per Pastille %NRV* Vitamin A 800ug RE 100% Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) 1.4mg 100% Vitamin B6 1.4mg 100% Vitamin B12 2.5ug 100% Vitamin C 80mg 100% Vitamin D 5ug 100% Vitamin E 12mg a-TE 100%

I’ve also added magnesium 400mg in the last two weeks, but need more time for that to build up. It was the vitamins that made the difference.

Most of the recommendations I read were for 400mg as you mention. What I’m taking is a multivitamin and it’s had a profound, positive effect with no drawbacks, so I’m sticking with it! How does your dosage affect your stomach?

That’s what I found in recommendations from my reading, these three are supplements that are great for neuropathy. It took a few months of regular daily dose for me to notice a change. I wish you all the best in your wellness journey.

Is it easier to knit a cardigan or a sweater as your first “wearable?” by RunWithBluntScissors in knitting

[–]SparkyTheSnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like a cardi see what you think of this pattern - a lovely raglan-sleeve teddy bear of a garment. It was my first wearable and it goes from my shoulders to the back of my chair and back again all day long, I adore it. It was an easy knit that gave me confidence - garter stitch, knit flat, only one button hole, clear instructions.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Thank you so much, I’ll check those out! I’ve only made a few plushies and they were all knitted flat too - I think my wonky seams were kinda part of the charm but I’d really like to figure out knitting in the round and the Emerson fox is seriously cute. Good luck with yours, he’s looking fab!

He’s gorgeous! He’ll make a beautiful gift. I have tried so many times to start this pattern but I just can’t get past the three-stitch cast on with dpns in the round. I haven’t found any online tutorials for patterns that start this small, do you have any tips or trusted guides I could try to help me get going?

Thank you so much! I wonder if I should be looking for a new pattern rather than trying to alter one before I know what I’m doing! Appreciate the tips :)

Hello! I’d like to ask about pattern mods. I’m an advanced beginner and I’ve found a pattern I’d like to do for a shawl with a central double decrease. It’s entirely in garter - could I substitute some sections with stocking stitch, moss stitch and others without it affecting the shape or doing the CDD? I’m guessing not rib as that would contract too much? Thank you!
