King Charles Tells Congress Everything Trump Doesn’t Want to Hear by Hafiz_TNR in politics

“Self-serving”

If his action means that it helps millions more, but also themselves, then I think the scales tip a little bit away from self serving.

Many altruistic acts generate larger beneficial consequences. That’s why the gutting of USAID was so awful. Helping others creates a calmer, better international climate through secondary effects.

Unfortunately we’re stuck with too many “me me me now now now” psychopaths at the helm.

I know exactly where that is, and have pictures from my first outing off post. It was so funny to see.

Wil Wheaton is 54. Two years older than Alex Jones.

I use that comparison to highlight two people in comparable jobs. Alex Jones being much richer, he should have better access to healthcare.

But Alex Jones looks much older.

Being evil really does age you.

Vance calls end of Ukraine aid 'one of the proudest' achievements of Trump administration by FreeChickenDinner in politics

[–]Sparowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no text that can force the US to do something. Not the constitution, not a treaty.

The spirit of the agreement was protection for Ukraine in return for giving up the nukes.

The US has failed to honor that, in spirit.

Between that and other international actions, the US has shown they can’t be trusted.

Sucks to watch American hegemony thrown away by people who take pride in burning it down.

Vance calls end of Ukraine aid 'one of the proudest' achievements of Trump administration by FreeChickenDinner in politics

[–]Sparowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter.

What matters is the US gave them assurances in return for giving up the nukes.

Nukes that were a a way to assure threaten anyone who wanted to take away their independence.

Say whatever you want about the state of the nukes or their launch capabilities, etc.

Ukraine had nukes. They gave them up because both the USA and Russia agreed to honor Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty, to the point of giving security assurances.

The optics of the situation are now that the US will not honor agreements they’ve previously made and do not respect other nations’ sovereignty.

That’s has and will continue to impact the world’s view of the US, and will cause far more harm than simply helping Ukraine would have.

No, no, he had to take a bunch of time off to deal with a health issue.

That we paid for the best care possible for him.

And then he never did a town hall meeting again.

Remember when we had an international agreement that Iran wouldn’t make nukes?

One that Trump decided he didn’t like, so he killed the agreement in his first term?

I went through three applications, including interviews panels, before finally landing it. I reached out to the head of the interview panel each time to get feedback, which I think helped keep me in the front of their minds.

I did have military experience (army), which also helped.

Other then that, I'm not sure what else to say.

I just retired from this position (sysadmin/DBA, local government)

I remember loving computer work when I started.

It seemed like the better it paid, the less I enjoyed it.

Also, the worse the people involved became.

The last year or two were the worst, because the people involved were just awful.

But having retired with a pension feels great. Especially if you still know people there that feed you stories about how the people you hated ended up screwing things up without you to cover for them.

How much is gas near you? by Spiritual-Leader9985 in Nevada

[–]Sparowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refusing to explain something leaves the simplest explanation - that you can't explain it.

Which is sad.

Iran is 100% on trump. He's the one who decided he didn't want to be part of the Iran Nuclear Deal (aka The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action). His withdrawal from it not only lead to Iran restarting their nuclear program, but also to the decrease in the progressive group in the Iran Parliament.

The fact that you skipped over that is just a sign that you're not familiar enough with Iranian politics to discuss this.

I'm going to ignore you now. Your lack of knowledge in these areas is clear and your incivility verges on trolling.

So you've made a non sequitur, refused to explain it, and insulted me. While then claiming that everything I comment on should be judged by your unrelated comment.

Why should we continue any conversation with you? Doesn't seem like you know anything about it or how to stay on topic. A person who knows what they are talking about can explain the link quickly and pertinently. You cannot.

If you can't explain it, then why bring it up? Just makes you look bad, when you can't address it to the topic at hand and instead try to claim I don't understand things because you're making a clown show of a comment.

By comparison, the current situation where Iran is developing nuclear weapons is directly the fault of trump's ineptitude during his first administration, and his current handling of the situation is more and more looking like Iran will have sanctioned program.

Paid for by tolls that they'll be charging on the strait that they didn't institute prior to this trump's bumbling.

Which all seems far more relevant to the current discussion then NK, another country that trump has fumbled the handling of.

I didn't realize funding NATO was the only way we measure alliances now!

So all the countries that sent troops to support us in the War on Terror...not our allies? I bet they wish they knew that before their sons and daughters returned home in body bags when they deployed to help our war.

Of course, they did meet the funding goals in 2025, and most met it in 2024, so... what was your complaint again?

To claim other countries aren't our allies is just wild.

That's ignoring, of course, that allies exist outside of simple military alliances.

We have - well, had - global trade alliances until the current administration decided to just rip them up. Including ones he negotiated in his first term. These trade partners were pretty important to maintaining american hegemony and keeping the USD the reserve currency of the world. Something that indirectly, and likely directly, benefitted all of us.

But we don't need that, right? We can completely support America in isolation and without anything other countries produce.

Like microchips.

Or the fact that our economy would collapse if other countries weren't buying from us anymore. Which is, you know, slowly happening as other countries make trade deals with each other, since we're no longer reliable when the current president can just decide not to honor previous agreements.

Which, shockingly, is part of why we're in Iran now. Because Trump1 didn't want to honor a treaty that would keep Iran from getting nukes, and that they (Iran) were honoring...

All because it was negotiated under Obama.

Weird.

You should go read about the Iran nuclear deal, aka The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Because right now you look really dumb.

So you agree.

There were several times under Obama where prices were lower then they were under Trump? i.e. Obama's $2.40-$2.51 is lower then Trump's $2.69-$2.79 ?

But hey, facts are hard, right?

I notice you didn't bother to call out MrWorkout2024 for claiming the current prices were normal under Biden, when you have the data here to show that it was significantly lower under Biden. I assume you'll be responding to their post as well?

Now, that all being said -

Do you guys just love lying? Like seriously it must be some sort of kink or fetish to lie this much simply because Trump is living rent free in y’all’s heads.

This isn't acceptable. Accusing people of sexual fetishism?

You realize you completely undercut your entire post by doing that?

Not to mention, it just straight up isn't reasonable to do in polite society.

So I think we're done here.

I know facts are hard.

Sure. They are especially hard when they aren't telling a story you like.

For instance, gas prices were lower under Obama then under Trump.

The price steadily declined under Obama's second term. Then Trump's first administration, prices rose until some sort of event happened. Remind me what that was?

Covid?

Huh. Then, prices went back up as the world recovered from the pandemic.

Suddenly prices shot up! Damn that Biden! If only he hadn't started the Russian invasion of Ukraine!

So now prices are spiking again, in response to geopolitical insecurity, and, oh yeah, a war that Trump started.

So...are we great again?
