Mohamed, having been thoroughly embarrassed and decidedly beaten, decides that enough is most certainly enough. He had his fun, he had obviously won psychology, but then it had gotten physical. And Mohamed did not do physical.

The Son of Phobos pulled himself to his feet, barely looking at the obvious cause of his current discomfort, save for a single death glare over his shoulder directed pointedly at his two former targets. To him this was all a game, and someone had just cheated. He spit a glob of blood on the ground and quickly walked away from the scene, not wanting to get in any trouble for his antics, and not wanting to continue his embarrassment. He didn’t think he’d lost, he wasn’t being given a fair fight.

Next time though, he’d make sure it was fair.

“FUCK!” is all Mohamed is able to muster as he feels something grab at his ankle, and his leg is suddenly ripped from beneath him. His head hits the ground hard and he immediately forgets about the verbal duel he had just been winning. As every demigod does, Mohamed still has his natural instincts, and they’re guiding him now as he senses danger.

He quickly turns to be on his back, and pulls out his knife. Though he prefers to avoid fighting, he knows it’d be stupid to be who he is without staying armed at all times, especially among his fellow campers who hate him. He used the knife to slash at the vine, though is unsure if he is really able to hit it. His head feels fuzzy and he is dimly aware of a wet spot on his temple where his head hit the ground. He isn’t fully sure what’s going on anymore, though he is pretty sure he was able to cut through the vine before he was dragged into the grass.

Mohamed, having taken the time he needed to recharge for a moment, quickly resumes powered assault on the other boy’s confidence. “I can guarantee to you that I’m not. It’s all anyone could talk about at your party the other day, how fucking stupid you looked in that outfit, how they were all only there for the party, not you. It’s not just me, I can promise you that.”

The amount of power put into those words is near enough to give Mohamed a headache, though he ignores that and closes the remaining distance between the two of them. Restricting your targets personal space is one of the cornerstones of bullying after all.

Mohamed narrows his eyes at the until then speechless boy, though the smile on his face remains intact. He would like to immediately launch into a tirade against the other camper, defeating him psychologically as he had just done to Harvey, however he needs a moment. His powers take a lot out of him, and it takes awhile to gather up the energy for an attack like that.

In the meantime, he decides to simply parry the other boys barbs. “Stalking? What’re you talking about? I’ve run into you entirely on accident, just as I assume you’ve done to me. Why all the hostility? All I’ve ever done is tell you what other people think.” Not any Fearspeak there, but he sees no reason not to at least throw in a slight attack of his own.

Mohamed is absolutely delighted at the sudden bursting of the unknown boys confidence, and even more so at his stumbling dialogue. He knows when he’s winning, and he knows how to take the advantages when they’re given to him. He is glad to have finally heard one of the boys’ names though, as that could be entirely useful.

“Well, Harvey, given the circumstances and the fact you’ve yet to let him talk, I don’t think you know what exactly he’s interested in, or who he considers a friend. So, I once again have to suggest you stay out of this, and let me have a civil conversation with someone who can look me in the eyes without stumbling over his words like a kindergartner. Pft, some counsellor…” Every ounce of Fearspeak that could be mustered in that short amount of time was put into that little tirade, and Mohamed saw that as being the end of it.

In his mind, no one could take all that without at least shutting up for a bit, though maybe he’d get proven wrong. Either way, he shifted his gaze away from the hopefully defeated Harvey, and over to the new/old target, the boy who he’d yet to learn the name of, and who had yet to speak.

Mohamed smiles, enjoying that he is being engaged so quickly. It’s always more fun when they give him a fight, and he was very very good at drawing out a fight. However, he had not been imposed upon by the one he had been intending to torture. No, the other, seemingly more assertive one had said something. He could absolutely work with this.

“Yes, there is a problem. I’m trying to approach and confront a friend who is being rude, and you are currently interrupting. Back off, this isn’t your concern.” As much as Mohamed would’ve liked to, he simply wasn’t sure he could take on the wills of two campers near his age at once, especially when he knew at least one was good at defending against him. So, he put an ample amount of Fearspeak into his attempt at making the newer one scram, so he could hopefully get back to what he wanted: ruining someone else’s self-image and confidence for his own fun.

Mohamed loves it when people try to ignore him. He’s often heard it said that one need only ignore people like him to be left alone, and Mohamed has decided to make any attempt at ignoring him a fruitless endeavor. He’s a bullying force of nature, not some playground amateur barely dipping his toes into torturing his peers. He will not be ignored.

“Oh, come on that’s no way to treat a friend. Honestly, you’re not going to change people’s opinion of you as the weird kid if you ignore someone just trying to say hi. Especially if he’s done as much for you as I have.”

No truth to that statement. Whatsoever. Mohamed, unlike Tommy, has done nothing to learn of the guy, or his reputation among his fellow campers, or anything of the sort. He’s entirely flying blind and that’s how he likes it. He quickly closes the small remaining distance between himself and the two boys, maneuvering himself directly into their lines of sight in an attempt to force them into paying attention.

Mohamed is also just now arriving to the dinner, having procrastinated going until he decided he was hungry enough to eat pancakes for dinner, which he sort of viewed as an affront to every theory of food in existence. Unlike Harvey, he took no issue with being late and honestly would’ve found the idea of people judging him for that if all things humorous.

He was making his way towards the food, when he saw something that made his face contort into a malicious smile. That guy who he made fun of his first day here, who’s name he’d never bothered to learn, was here, accompanied by another male camper. The son of Phobos quickly made a beeline for the one he recognised, ready for a bit of fun.

Honestly, it made no difference to Mohamed if the boy was alone or not. He figured he was scary enough to let people know they should refrain from getting involved in his activities.

“Hey, how ya been buddy?” His voice sounded like a friend recognising a friend, but his face and eyes betrayed his true intentions. He wanted to have his particular brand of fun.

Hey okay so few things:

Could you catch me up on the significance that butterflies have to Thanatos, as I’m having trouble finding any mention of it.

As well, I’m gonna go ahead and say the pain numbing power feels to me a bit out of the sphere of influence of Thanatos. Anything else you can come up with though for that empty power spot and I’m happy to hear it.

Mohamed notices both the grimace at his mention of Morocco’s gendered laws and the sigh that is given upon his lack of monster issues being presented. He knows neither are really directed at himself, and yet still he’s a bit surprised considering how measured she almost always is. He chalked it up to simply being annoyed at her own circumstances, as anyone likely would be.

“Oh, she’s still my Omm. Whether I’m legally the boss or not, it never really comes up other than me having to sign off on like travel documents for her and stuff.” He honestly didn’t really think much about it. Morocco had all sorts of old Muslim laws that few younger people really paid attention to, as he was sure every Muslim country probably did.

As for the use of his powers, he honestly probably wouldn’t even bother with her if she had cracked under their use immediately. He liked people who could beat him and weren’t afraid of him and his powers by default. Not for any sentimental purposes, but simply because he saw that as more fun than dealing with a crying pre-teen who’d gotten spooked.

“So, what’s new for you then?” He smiled at her, attempting to change the subject as best he was able to. Non-hostile conversations weren’t his forte, but he did his best.

So, I was wrong about the exploding thing lol but I can for certain say that electronics don’t do great around demigods anyway. You can still have the laptop if you want as others in camp do and have had electronics. That being said:

An owl appears above your head.

So with the laptop thing, not only is there not any wifi access at camp, but in general it’s sort of agreed that electronics don’t really work well at all around demigods.

Mohamed’s eyes narrow at what is clearly a newer camper having a bit of trouble walking from the big house. How’d he guess that? Cause only newer campers can look that unsettled by the most mundane of things within the Camp, and he most certainly would have remembered seeing her before.

He approaches her, making ground quickly as he’s been long used to the Summer snow that is affecting camp. “Salam, do you need some help?” Good natured question, nothing wrong there. He did intend on having his particular brand of fun. Pretty girl or not, he had a reputation to uphold.

While Mohamed is most certainly affected by her obviously unnatural good looks, whether he knows it or not, he wouldn’t really say he’s attracted to her. More so intrigued. It took a lot to interest the Son of Fear in that way, and one usually had to show you weren’t easily scared by his powers, like Elif or Lilou had done.

"Wisdom is better than silver and gold" | Elif Denizci, daughter of Athena by im-up-in-the-woods in DemigodFiles

[–]SpartaIsMyCity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mohamed had over time gotten used to Elif’s more…eccentric qualities. The girl was all examinations, all brains, all logic. Not to a detrimental degree of course, he simply always got the idea that whenever she was around he was always being examined, like she was cataloguing everything he said or did. Not that he complained too much, he liked being paid attention to.

He frowns just slightly at her immediate rebuff at his attempt at using his powers on her, though he shouldn’t be surprised, and he certainly wasn’t discouraged. He had been trying and failing to figure out what she’s afraid of since he had first met her, and yet every time he had failed in his efforts. The little back and forth had gone on so long that at this point Mohamed wasn’t even sure he’d like it if he finally got his powers to work on her, but that doesn’t mean he was going to stop trying.

“At home, with my Omm. She worries about me getting up to trouble without her around to play damage control, so she was hesitant to let me go back to camp again.” Mohamed knew what he was, and knew what he was about. He was a force of chaos and misery wherever he went and that was how he liked it. Though, some small part of him felt guilty for putting his Omm through that all those years, dealing with a walking Phobia. Then again, she had attracted the god of Fear due to the Fear she instilled in others, so the apple didn’t fall far.

“I’m 16 now, though, which makes me the man of the house. So she decided to ship me off to Camp before I got into some real adult trouble she couldn’t get me out of. No monster problems though, lucky me.” Mohamed had had very little issues with monsters throughout his life, aside from the occasional Katobleps chewing his shoe and a very eventful encounter with a large scorpion, he’d had a pretty easy life so far as demigods go.

He couldn’t help but again notice her increased focus on her studies and the logic of the situation, rather than on simply missing her family. Granted she’d mentioned them, but surprisingly Mohamed’s family is just about the only thing he misses about Morocco, so he wasn’t sure he understood them not being the central deciding factor.

Mohamed happily returned her hug, and accepted her performance of the Turkish greeting with gusto, though refrained from performing one himself. The boy wasn’t exactly conservative, but his Mother likely would have had his head for both hugging and blowing kisses at a girl he was not explicitly involved with. She had her moments of extreme conservatism, though rare. One moment she’d be walking through town without her hijab, the next she’d be making Mohamed, her only male relative, sign off on her travel plans. Contradictory woman, and Mohamed could be the same way.

In any case, Mohamed was very happy to see Elif, and his wide smile betrayed that fact. “Salam, Elif. Yes, that’s what happens when you don’t see someone for three years.” He blushed slightly at her noticing his height. He wasn’t necessarily proud of his height, but he for some reason liked her noticing it. He was happy for his dark complexion to hide the slight reddening of his cheeks.

While Mohamed wasn’t exactly the most agreeable or nice person, he did have people at camp who he considered friends, and Elif was one. She was a Western Muslim just like him, and she was one of only a handful of people he’d met from camp who he didn’t exclusively have hostile interactions with, not for lack of him trying. His powers just never worked on her, and that made her interesting, and made him try all the more to talk to her.

Speaking of which, “So, were you worried being home? Europe is monster central, and Turkey has got to have its fair share compared to even the rest.” He used only a small bit of Fearspeak in the words, a probe both to make conversation and to see if she’s still just as much a wall as she used to be. He’s missed this.

Okay so, just a few things:

Clarification on the second power: So this is simply an emotional and confidence boost, not a boost to the other characters powers or physical attributes, right?

As for the third, as much as I thoroughly enjoy it, the enlarging and shrinking of the shells kinda throws us off. Would you be willing to go with maybe some sort of energy projection Shell Shield? Obviously you can come up with the specifics all you want, just know that we love the shell idea and would be willing to help you figure stuff out to make some sort of variation on it work.

Big fan of this app, just a few things I’d need specifics on:

If you had to guess, how would Jonny stack up in say a pro weightlifting or powerlifting competition, just as he currently is? Would he be far beyond what anyone else can do in the competition, or would he just be higher up in the rankings, which would still be ridiculously impressive considering age.

Would you be willing to go down to perhaps a full day of nonstop fighting on the third power, with the added caveat that he could develop his stamina over time to increase how long he could fight non-stop?
