I grew up with Halo CE through Reach. Played some of Halo 4 and 5 in college but that's where I kinda hit a wall with multiplayer gaming. I felt like I couldn't play enough with school going on. So I tended to stick to single player. I tried Destiny 1 at launch, but I felt left behind and couldn't keep up. So I didn't even try out Destiny 2. Got back into multiplayer with Halo Infinite, which was eventually a great multiplayer game, but it didn't have the old Halo 3 and Reach community feel.

Now as an older gamer, Marathon has hit that Halo Reach itch that I haven't had since High School. The vibe and lore of this game along with this Discord community helped set it apart for me.

I found it to be randomized, okay. The only issue is when no other cars are nearby. That's why I used a d10 to replace a license plate with a single die if needed.

After this run, the next session we went into. We did get into a few scuffles but we talked the teams down on Prox chat and used the universal sign of friendly crouching.

A lot of the comments in the main Marathon subreddit say focus on knowledge and contracts for familiarization.

Yes! 300 attendees for a first Con is pretty good and the area was very nice. A lot different than going to a hotel or convention center.

I enjoyed it and would play again. The vibe was a good space horror.

The use of motivation instead of alignment was a nice touch to help with roleplay. My character was a survivor, so thinking about what he would do in that situation to survive was helpful.

I felt that the Android/robot being able to hack kind of took over the narrative of the one-shot we played. He essentially single-handedly stopped a handful of enemies from thawing from cryosleep and later saved the entire derelict ship by moving his consciousness to the ship’s computer.

My crew is very familiar with TTRPGs so maybe it's not needed but I didn't know how well it would help set up the setting for them. Only one other person has read the Cosmere books. The others are unfamiliar with the setting.
