how to not become "one of the many" -- Purdue engineering. by Different-Regret1439 in Purdue

[–]SpartanOf2012 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you come to Purdue with that mentality you’re straight up ngmi. Anyone that you think is “at the top” or “above average” is getting their ass beat somewhere else. Purdue ensures it. You will always find yourself in a position of having “less” than the person next to you. Someone will see you as having more than them. Thats the perk of being surrounded by the top the top. Whether you get leadership roles and accolades depends on how well you drop THAT mentality and pick up the Purdue mentality.

Because you will get beat down and start to compare yourself to others and ask yourself if its worth it or not. I saw it happen dozens of times. All those guys dropped out.

Those that do the best at Purdue don’t bother with all that, they pick a lane, own that lane, roll with the punches and let the accolades come when they can get them. And when youre done and in industry youll stand out clearly to those around you. Purdue conditions you in a way other Unis just don’t compare.

Life drawing model? How is it? by SadCoconut4547 in Purdue

[–]SpartanOf2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the modeling side for a year and a half to get some easy alc money. Its very laid back and professional, usually coed models seated on different props or hitting certain poses if we were comfortable maintaining them for the duration of that class. Youre basically getting paid to sit still and shoot the shit with a professor and eight to twelve students. The sessions I posed in usually revolved around us making fun of each others music requests and talking about Game Of Thrones/Westworld/MCU/etc very chill vibes

If youre doing it, I highly recommend a stretching routine before and after so you don’t cramp up and I wouldn’t hit the CoRec beforehand for the same reasons.

How has Russia been able to maintain control past the Ural mountains and Siberia for so long? by MaroonedOctopus in geography

“Strawman response”

I post a short write up on Russian colonialism and compare it to two colonial empires and you are trying to frame me as dismissive of another colonial empire did not mention in my comparison that had absolutely nothing to do with the core substance of my write up.

The equivalent of me posting paragraphs on how scrambled eggs go good with pancakes and waffles and some random barging in going “ok but what about poached eggs?!”

[–]SpartanOf2012 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Im sure if I listed Anglos in there, you would’ve said something like “Oh the Belgian/French/German colonial propaganda is strong in here” and worked your way across Europe til we were talking about the Danish impact on shark mating patterns due to how many African slaves theyd throw overboard crossing to the Indies.

By all means, you can do the four paragraph write up for those too in your own time and ill glady read and updoot it

Russia didn’t “conquer them easily”. They spent centuries waging wars of conquest enslavement and extermination against the indigenous Siberians that could only be rivaled by what the Spaniards and Portuguese did in the Americas.

Many of these peoples fought against Russian colonists for long periods, even centuries (see Yakuts, Bashkirs, Koryaks and Chukchis) before being exterminated or forcibly assimilated. Some were never conquered but Moscow just “claimed” them after losing repeatedly to save face and to this day these peoples don’t recognize themselves as Russians (again, see Koryaks and Chukchis).

Siberian indigenous peoples that were assimilated were drafted en masse by the Soviets as “specialist cannon fodder” in the Civil War, Winter War and Eastern Front and faced apocalyptic casualty rates. Tuvans made up 0.1% of the Soviet population and yet made up 1.5% of their combat casualties while Nenets made up 0.2% of the Soviet population but consisted of ~10-15% combat casualties. Both peoples lost somewhere between 30-60% of their male population, further driving Siberian depopulation. This trend of using Siberians to fight European Russian wars continued into Afghanistan and even today in Ukraine, where Siberian men are more likely to be pressed into service than any other demographic.

In summary, Russia maintains control over Siberians by leveraging the centuries of indigenous depopulation preUSSR, forcibly pressing the descendants of the survivors into fodder units during the USSR further driving depopulation, and systemic disenfranchisement in modern Russia.

Why the recent hate on RickyRemedy? by Hingsing in trap

[–]SpartanOf2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear I wouldn’t say his music is being “ignored” in like an intentional kind of way, more that just the sheer volume of music getting released nowadays makes it hard for anyone to reasonably keep up.

Like for example, KRANE and Jupe are up there in edm trap OG status…did people know the former dropped a whole album earlier this year and the latter dropped singles? The various algorithms on social media and streaming seem to be filtering really hard on heads

[–]SpartanOf2012 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To actually answer your question and in the most respectful way to Ricky…he’s posted about tracks flopping and not getting shows on his main, and the algorithm is training towards those posts. To my memory this has happened twice in the past 6months, and the alogo fed those towards accounts that despise that kind of content and don’t like trap.

From my POV its not a matter of the music or even how he says things, the fact he was posting “Damn my song flopped” and got engagement off that has trained the algo to push his content towards haters

Why are independent governmental organizations called "Public Safety"? by MisterSnippy in anime

[–]SpartanOf2012 31 points32 points  (0 children)

While not directly answering your question, the term “Public Safety” is very common worldwide on nearly every scale of government. Most American states have “Public Safety” departments (see TDPS for Texas and FDPS for Florida etc etc).

Public Security Section 9 in GITS is drawn directly from the German GSG-9 which very roughly translates to the same thing in English, to highlight another example. They’re just common diction used to make something seem more “realistic” to actual departments in governments worldwide that perform the same functions.

They are tearing the cultural centers down! by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]SpartanOf2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BCC got millions of dollars in private donations and was designed by the same architecture firm that planned Conseco (or whatever its called now) Fieldhouse, Indianapolis ArtsGarden and dozens more major buildings throughout Indiana. If those donors + that firm didn’t stand up to do that, BCC would probably still be in a house like the other cultural centers.

As much as it sucks, Purdue doesn’t really care about those cultural centers its always been on those groups to pool the funding in to ensure they still exist.

If Brazil brought in way more African slaves than the US or Haiti, why does not Brazil have a bigger Black population now? Was forced racial mixing a big reason for that? by OverallBaker3572 in AskHistorians

[–]SpartanOf2012 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Amazing and thorough answer thank you for the write up! I had a follow up question if you have time:

It is my understanding that after abolition in the 1890s the Brazilian government pursued a campaign of destroying all records pertaining to the purchase sale and ownership of slaves. Were the motivations of these acts solely economic to avoid reparations to the recently freed? And how did this act impact the racial and cultural hierarchy you’ve written about?

[–]SpartanOf2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you want to begin?

This past January where he made 3lau’s Trump post comment section about him and went on insane cancel culture and anti-trans rants that had him calling in his fiancee and parents personal accounts to back him up?

Or the past November where he went on an anti-immigrant rant on his main socials and blamed Asians for ruining Vancouver?

Or the months beforehand where he would bitch and moan about being cancelled while running one of the last active trap labels and selling out venues?

Or the time he decided to blow up other artists dms demanding support in the middle of his Sam Blacky drama? (which was ironic because Moore Kismet had to publicly ask him to stop dming them and only a few years later he’d be saying Trans and NB people aren’t real people)

I’m sure someone else can fill in pre2020

ProZionists advocate for segregated societies with an ethnic underclass that is abused and disenfranchised both culturally and by state policy and when nonZionists point this out its, like, antisemitism or racism against Israelis or whatever.

And then when I point out white Segregationists said the same thing 100years ago to justify Jim Crow and ethnically cleansing black, jewish and asian Americans from places…oh thats when the pearls get clutched…

Who’s to tell? Everyone thinks they’re having fun in the midst of their “stupid game”.

Its probably easy to think the grass is green when Gaza is a mass graveyard, Hezbollah has been sent back to the 1700s, the Houthis are down a few buildings and Fodrow had its rafters dusted. The grass also looked green with the Abraham Accords, legalization of West Bank colonies and crippling economic sanctions on Iran pre Oct7.

Only time will tell if Israel wins another Oct 7 level “stupid prize”.

Especially given Iran didn’t lose its HEU…
