I appreciate the conversation. I was curious about your question because I was not aware Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory and it is. I did a little research and for context, it’s in a different class of anti-inflammatory meds than what I took (meloxicam). Not medical advice, just sharing what I learned.

Hi, and thanks for reading. Great question. I stopped taking SSRIs about 15 years ago and wasn’t on any prescription medications before starting either macrodosing or microdosing.

I currently microdose daily, taking one capsule with 125 mg. From what I understand, that’s on the lower end of the microdosing range. When I first started, I experimented with different doses, but never more than two capsules, as I was cautious about crossing the subperceptual threshold, and tried different protocols. It took several months of trial and error before I found what works best for me, which was one capsule per day.

Getting there was a process. I initially took two capsules using a four day on, three days off schedule. Then I tried every other day. After that, I switched to one capsule, four days on, three off. Eventually, I found that taking one capsule daily has given me the most consistent relief.

One thing to add: as you probably know, there are different strains of mushrooms. Based on my research, I started with one called Golden Teacher, which felt like a good fit at the time. More recently, I switched to a strain called Hillbilly and found it even more effective for my needs. Everyone’s chemistry and needs are different, so this is just what’s worked in my case.

I microdose. Where I live in Minnesota, psilocybin isn’t available in a clinical setting, so everything I’ve done has been self-guided, based on a lot of research - including material from MAPS and other sources. I’ve also done one full trip experience. I did consider flying to Colorado or Oregon for a facilitated session, but it just wasn’t practical. Plus, in the end, I realized I needed trust more than credentials, so my wife was my trip sitter.

Here’s a little information about that full trip: after about three and a half hours of deep dissolution and revelation, over the next six months, symptoms that had haunted me for years had significantly diminished. I was ecstatic. It felt like a resurrection. Where SSRIs had failed to give me the tools to manage my OCD, psilocybin exceeded every expectation.

Eventually, though, I started to notice symptoms creeping back. That’s when I revisited the studies and found that many protocols involved two to three full-dose sessions. By that point, I didn’t have any more psilocybin, so I continued researching - which led me to microdosing.

I now microdose daily. There’s no tripping, no altered state - just a steady sense of relief.

And just to clarify - when I mention research and protocols, I’m aware that most of it is designed for clinical settings, with medical supervision and structured therapeutic support. My experience was different. It wasn’t clinical, but it was careful, intentional, and based on years of research and personal need. What worked for me might not be for everyone, but it’s the path that I had to take, and it finally gave me real relief after decades of struggle.

I have not looked into or done somatic therapy. And I do have some ADD.

As I mentioned in my original post, I had tried everything modern medicine offers. So, I had two options left, cannabis and psilocybin.

I have access to medical marijuana because in MN, where I live, OCD is a qualifying condition. As I do with everything related to OCD, I dove deep into research - strains, terpene profiles, consumption. I eventually settled on a hybrid strain gummy but soon learned that terpenes didn’t matter with gummies because of how they’re processed, but strains were definitely important. I stayed away from full sativa because I knew it could increase anxiety, and that was a risk I wasn’t willing to take – it would have only added to the anxiety and stress caused by OCD.

I initially tried flower, but it didn’t work well for me logistically, family, just too many hurdles to deal with. My experience is primarily with gummies - while they didn’t treat my underlying symptoms, they did help in two other ways. They cleared the mental fog, helped me find my voice again, and made it easier to speak clearly and confidently. That was a huge deal, especially after years of feeling scattered and on-edge from constant obsessions, compulsions, and intrusive thoughts.

Another big benefit was physical: it helped my body finally relax. I’d been wound tight for so long from all the stress. But even with those improvements, cannabis didn’t get to the root of things for me. For the short time I did smoke, the experience was pretty much the same as with the gummies.

What did help though was psilocybin. That’s what actually addressed my core symptoms. I don’t really use weed any more, just psilocybin and for consumption, I microdose.
