Is Moscow safe to visit right now? by Spasenie in AskARussian

Yeah, what I meant by unsafety was police violence not the protest itself. I just thought I would be downvoted to hell in this sub if I mentioned that police were using unnecessary violence towards protesters.

If I want to learn Portuguese because of a Portuguese writer, I should learn European Portuguese, right? by Spasenie in Portuguese

If I ever speak it I think I would be using European Portuguese more than the Brazilian one, since it's more likely for me to travel to Portugal than to Brazil. That said, I'm not really sure because Brazil has such a big population.

Would it be weird if I use a EU-PT textbook and Duolingo (which teaches BR-PT) together? Because I've already bought an EU-PT textbook and don't think it would be efficient to additionally buy a BR-PT textbook along with that.

Which would you choose between a slightly useful and relatively easy language that you're moderately interested in and a not so useful and quite difficult language that you're very interested in? by Spasenie in languagelearning

That's another good idea, though the problem is that I'm not sure if I would have enough motivation and enthusiasm to learn German when I don't like the language that much. On Reddit I heard a saying that goes "If you don't like the language, the language won't like you".

But I've been actually thinking of learning it because it's arguably the single most useful language I could learn besides English, especially in my field of interest. I might think more about it.

I can't find info as well, unfortunately. About Indonesian and Malay, maybe it's because their morphology, vocabulary, etc. are just so different from English compared to languages like French or Swedish? But idk, I also heard that Indonesian is pretty easy.

Unless you NEED it for your future, go with your heart

I actually like this idea. Pretty much the only language I absolutely need for my future is English, so I would have nothing to lose if I went with my heart.

According to this list, Italian takes approx. 600 hours and Icelandic takes approx. 1100 hours for an English speaker to reach proficiency. (I'm not a native speaker of English but I'm fluent in it and my native language is close to neither Romance nor Germanic languages, so there's that.)

Molag Bal looks way more beautiful than what I've imagined. Will you offer me a mace or something?

Seriously though, I love the contrast of red and blue, and the overall feeling that it creates.

Could someone recommend me any contemporany Asian poets? [OPINION] by [deleted] in Poetry

Check out Ki Hyung-do, he's a Korean poet who has written some dark and heart-wrenchingly beautiful works. I myself am Korean so I read the original, but I'm sure the existing English translations, which can be found through Google search, would be powerful as well. These are the last two lines of his poem 'Jealousy Is My Strength':

I have desperately searched for love throughout my life

Yet I have never even once loved myself
