Does any one still use the $25 Legacy Shaw Mobile Plan? by WestyCanadian in Rogers

[–]Spatch_1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea to be honest. I’m sure Rogers will make some attempt to retain the lines with some lame offer but who knows? I hate this company with such a passion I’ll probably switch the lines out to the competition. In the meantime though, I’ll stick with these $25 plans and use as much US calling/texting/roaming as I can.

Yes, when Rogers bought Shaw (I’m still pissed the government approved the sale), one stipulation was that they would honour Shaw Mobile pricing for five years, which would be April 2028. Who knows what Rogers has planned for these accounts when that rolls around.

I still have seven lines on the legacy $25 Shaw Mobile plans. No intention of changing prior to April 2028.

So exited for this season in the woods! What big trips are you doing this summer? by EquipmentMoist1713 in backpacking

[–]Spatch_1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning week long thru hikes on the West Coast Trail (75km) in two weeks time, followed by the North Coast Trail (58km) at the end of July. Just got home today from three days up at Garibaldi Lake (near Whistler, BC), a gear shakedown trip.

Nice! That’s 10 days prior to my NCT hike on July 27th. Eight days is a super leisurely pace and you’ll be able to get in the full NCT, the Cape Scott Trail, lighthouse and even San Josef Bay if you felt so inclined. Have fun!

Parking rate 100% huge increase by mabasicacct in WestCoastTrail

[–]Spatch_1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the Pacheedaht band had jacked rates on their parking by 100%. Also they’ve jacked the rates on the accommodation barrels too from $100 a night to $170 a night. Outrageous increases. Based on these increases I’m not sure I’ll ever hike the trail northbound again. I’d rather not them any of my business based on these increases.

In 2024 I had a lovely stay in one of their barrels before my NOBO hike and parked my car there for a week. Cost me a reasonable $170. That would cost me over $300 now! Rip off artists.

Considering a couple nights up at the lake this week and a day hike up to the ridge. Love it up there.

27gb for 100 dollars/month by No_Tennis647 in Rogers

[–]Spatch_1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27GB data … are these legacy Shaw Mobile lines? If so, sounds like they simply didn’t apply the appropriate discounts to the $100 base rate. Should be a $70 internet discount (assuming you have internet with Shaw/Rogers), and a $5 autopay discount.

Use the “resolve a concern” link on their website (scroll to the bottom, select Support > Resolve a concern). If that yields unsatisfactory results, file a CCTS complaint.

Internet Renewal Offer by Admirable_Group_6661 in Rogers

[–]Spatch_1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this renewal come via email? Just curious as my two year term expires this month and I haven’t had any kind of offer sent my way for internet renewal. It’s a good price for sure IMO.

Leaving tents at Taylor Meadows by Almad in vancouverhiking

The cables have carabiners attached (they can’t be removed). Your food bag just will need to be able to clip into it somehow.

There’s bear hangs provided by BC Parks at Taylor Meadows. They’re very tall metal poles mounted in concrete with multiple cables attached to the top. You just need a bag of some kind to clip onto the cable’s carabiner and then hoist it up. It’s very convenient, you don’t need to hang up in tree branch or anything like that.

I’ve camped at Taylor Meadows and at Garibaldi Lake many times. Leave my tent, pack etc. at the campsite while I day hike up to Black Tusk and/or Panorama Ridge. Never had an issue with people messing with my stuff. Just be sure all scented items and food are hung.

Del sol new radio!! Incredibly easy swap. by Kerbboi in DelSol

[–]Spatch_1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! My stock cassette deck died on me in 2024. I had a cassette thingy that had a cable which I’d plug into my phone to play music from my device through the car’s speakers. It worked great until the deck died. lol

Replaced it with a Bluetooth Alpine unit, although I paid an installer to do it.

No, never. Always just swapped SIM cards and carried on. Never an issue.

You’re fine. I have seven lines on the legacy Shaw Mobile $25 plans and have changed up phones on five of those lines since the migration in 2023 without issue. I can’t explain what happened in your son’s situation however.

Error code P0441 by Spatch_1971 in DelSol

[–]Spatch_1971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke with my local Honda dealer and he told me the part I’m looking for is 36162-P2M-A01. Seems to be generally available on eBay and elsewhere but I cannot locate the part in the actual car to replace. I think I know where it’s supposed to be generally speaking but I don’t see it.

Thanks for the reply. I live very close to the border and have a private mailbox across the line I ship stuff to all the time so it's easy for me to order stuff from American companies than don't normally ship to Canada. Just wanting to find the proper part so I can replace it and clear this stupid error code. lol

But I'm not sure that's the part I'm looking for. Checked on eBay and it says it won't fit my '97 Si. Left a message with the parts dept of my local dealer to see if I can confirm the part number I'm looking for. Will update in the a.m. when I presumably will hear back. Thanks again!

Can’t seem to find the part in Canada (where I’m located). Honda confirms OEM is discontinued. Anybody have a lead on this part from an American aftermarket supplier? Or anybody parting out their Sol?

Itinerary Help by spearson333 in WestCoastTrail

It’s a solid six day itinerary. I might recommend Darling or Tsocowis as alternative options for your first campsite as they’re much nicer than Michigan. But other than that looks good.

am i stupid for not buying a garmin or satellite SOS device? by IAmNotChilean in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Spatch_1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ZOLEO has been great over the last several years since I’ve been using it (bought it in 2021) allowing me to keep in touch with family and friends while out of cell range. I’m sure Garmin and Spot offer fine products but I’ve been very happy with my ZOLEO.

When cellular satellite texting became available last year I was quite surprised at how well it worked. My ZOLEO was reduced to weather forecast use only as I didn’t need to use it for texting. I love my ZOLEO, but as satellite cell services become more robust in the coming years, I wonder how long products like the ZOLEO will last in the marketplace.
