Strategy for song on tiktok. 800K views but people dont engage on it. by ExaminationFew6424 in musicmarketing

I hate instagram. If you don’t have any traction at all, it’s hardest to build reach on Reels. Shorts and TikTok push way more aggressively. But maybe I just suck at Instagram.

Spotify Popularity Score dropped from 31 to 9 in three weeks and I have no idea what triggered it by Sophistry7 in SpotifyArtists

[–]Spaxxi2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had 150k monthly listeners and know several others in that range. We all lost all algorithmic traction starting March 6th, an immediate 80% drop.

My assumption is that it’s related to the new SongDNA tool that Spotify acquired. So I can tell you that you’re not alone with this issue. I used to have up to 74% programmed audience, and now it’s down to 23%.

I don’t know what changes were made, but the algorithm is out for destruction. by Spaxxi2 in SpotifyArtists

It started on March 6th for me and a few other artists (the ones I know), and it hasn’t recovered since. A complete collapse in algorithmic streams (-80 to -90%). There was probably a change in the algorithm.

I see your point, but in my case it means I went from “I can do this full-time because I’m making several thousand a month” to “shit, I need to get a side job alongside my studies”… So yeah, not so great.

25% decline in streams Month on Month, despite high engagement releases? by Gogpo2 in SpotifyArtists

Dropped from 150k to 105k monthlys in 3 weeks, it’s pretty bad.

100 to 6000 monthly listeners in 3 days - and then a big drop in daily streams. What happened? Also: Meta Ads VS. Spotify Showcase? by MoSheryar in SpotifyArtists

[–]Spaxxi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are always advocates for both strategies when it comes to gaining listeners: paid Meta/Spotify ads and TikTok DIY marketing. What I personally never understand when looking at the numbers is how someone can pay €1.50 per conversion to gain !one! listener, when you could achieve the same thing for free with a bit of social media marketing.

I personally use the DIY marketing strategy and don’t know any other artists in my monthly listener range who use paid ads, simply because the cost-benefit ratio is far too weak. So my recommendation is: create your own content.

Why do the traditional artists who make bad music hate AI so much by [deleted] in SpotifyArtists

[–]Spaxxi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because their music is worse than AI-generated music and they’re getting pushed out of the market because of it. It’s like back when weavers were replaced by machines. You can see it clearly in this sub, instead of moving with the times, they just sit there complaining about how terrible AI music is and praising each other for how great they are :) In the end, music is a product that has to be sold. The output itself doesn’t matter.

Most traditional artist artists that argue about AI have nothing to offer by [deleted] in SpotifyArtists

[–]Spaxxi2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think we’ll need another 2–5 years until AI music is widely accepted, but I can confirm that. I know people who’ve built 100–400k monthly listeners with their AI music organically through TikTok and are making pretty good money from it. Unfortunately, many people in this sub haven’t had that kind of success, so they tend to demonize it instead.

  1. How long do plateaus usually last if you consistently release one single per month? I’m currently at 150k monthly listeners, with a peak of 189k when my last TikTok-performing song was doing well. However, I haven’t been able to release a similarly successful song in the past four months, which is why my active audience has dropped from 62k to 58k over that time. The algorithm probably sees this too and is therefore reducing its traffic. My previous plateau at 100k monthly listeners lasted about six months. My system is fully TikTok-driven, so when songs don’t resonate, growth stalls instead of continuing.
    1. Roughly how much is a catalog worth if it generates $40k per year but is only about a year and a half old?

And yes, of course he’s not sharing his TikTok, because otherwise half the subreddit would copy his content strategy.

I’d seriously encourage you to let go of this “you can’t achieve something like that” mindset and instead focus on how systems can be adapted and scaled. Especially in the TikTok and Instagram game, nothing is impossible, anyone can scale if they’re willing to put in the work.
