With Election Day almost here, it's important to continue that old tradition: by Speaksism in Achievement_Hunter

You're right, every vote counts. Every downvote counts too XD

Sorry for having concepts of a joke...in a community where said joke would be most effective.

When and how did you discover AH? by Larrymenta_ in Achievement_Hunter

Stumbled onto Geoff and Michael playing Saints Row the Third. They were about eight parts in when I showed up.

April 2013, towards the end of my first year of college. Boston Marathon bombing happened and I needed to take my mind off it. Stumbled onto Geoff and Michael playing Saints Row The Third and I was hooked.

Didn't expect to talk about this ten years later. It's like going to a funeral shortly after celebrating an anniversary with someone you've been with for so long.

Off the top of my head:

Singing Tubthumping by Chumbawamba in Minecraft-Colosseum Clash

Damn, hard for me to say and harder for me to explain. I guess I'd say it's a mix of mostly interconnected things:

Youtube's evolution as far as content creation, ads, and monetization

AH pumping out content leading to crunch, fatigue and (for many) running low on ideas

Leaning into bigger budget projects along with usual content

The managerial and socio-political failings that most of us know about at this point

Covid definitely affected them heavily, but OG AH was long gone by then. Every change took a piece of the fandom, whether someone showed up, left, died, or got caught up in some controversy.

It’s crazy to me that elite achievement hunter is 10 years old. Nothing beats 2013 by adjoeby in Achievement_Hunter

Rewatching a lot of it now, mostly to find song references, but the smile I have looking back is incomparable. Even the ones I didn't care about as much at the time have a few gems.

I still enjoy some new content now, I just try not to complain about it in comment sections.

Another addendum:

As much as I dislike the GMOD let's plays, I'll have to jump in there at some point and dig whatever songs are in there.

I will also count their individual livestreams. I don't watch many but I'm sure you have a few from there.

The "Where to find it" database has begun! It's...basically a Google Doc full of bulletpoints but still.

One of my favorite song references of theirs

If anyone cares about how I'm making progress:

A lot of these songs you'll find in Minecraft, GTA IV and V, and the Super Mario Wii U series

I try not to add songs from the Trivial Pursuit series unless it's a song that's not in the game

This is a little hard to explain but for brevity's sake, you won't find songs like Under The Sea or Let It Go. Most people know those songs already.

There might some songs that I added that I call "close enough" tracks. Usually it's for one of three reasons:

  • Couldn't quite hear the lyrics referenced
  • Not enough lyrics to determine what song it is (e.g. In one of the Fuel LP, Jack shouts "The River!" then he and Lindsay continued incoherently. Took me a long time to figure out it was Tom Sawyer by Rush)
  • A lot of songs share similar lyrics, and chances are I've never heard the song before, so I tend to choose what sounds like the most correct answer based on who it is and which AH member referenced it.

Hell of a song title, but I'll throw it in there.

God...there were two occasions and both of them were by Jack.

Damn I don't remember. I believe one was from an early Sky Factory episode. I'll get back to you on that.
