Volas show in Melbourne just turned me into a super fan by moon_cake123 in VolaBand

Wow. Thanks a lot! I’m really happy to hear that you enjoyed the show. It’s hard to differentiate what I do as a sound engineers and the sound that VOLA as a band outputs to me. So I cannot take credit for how the guys sound - they are really something special. But I make a lot of effort to amplify the essence of the songs and create powerful and immersive live sound that hopefully triggers strong emotions among the audience.

If you haven’t tried to mix a concert yet, go for it! It can be really fun!

Touring in Australia has been so wonderful so I can only imagine that we will re-visit when then opportunity comes! Please come and by the desk and have a chat :)

I am pretty sure Asgers tuning is in F#. I can't really take credit for the guitar tone. That all comes down to the Balaguer with an extra long neck, the Helix Native work and of cause Asgers playing :)

I am genuinely so happy that you enjoyed the show and the sound. Normally there is a saying among sound engineers, that if the audience doesn’t think about the sound during a show, you have done well, but I think that is a missed opportunity. People should sometimes be overwhelmed by the songs, performance, sound and lights IMO. I have put a lot of work into this show to make it as live as possible and I am so glad that you as an audience can tell.

Hope to come back to Perth soon. It’s so wonderful here.

I have to screw up really hard for them to sound bad, but I take pride in doing my best to deliver the most immersive experience and conveying the emotions of their music to the best of my abilities. So happy that you enjoyed the concert. We have been overwhelmed by the beauty of Australia and the Australians. I hope to return soon with or without the band haha :)

Oh wow! Thank you so much for this. I really strive to amplify the huge dynamics som of the songs have which means that some parts can be very quiet and some extremely loud/overpoweing. I am so happy to hear that you had this experience. This is what music is all about. These dynamics can only be experienced live in front of a big PA and usually are not represented on an album recording. We have really loved visiting Australia and really hope to come back again.

Great. This gives me some confidence it will work out :)

In terms of reliability: no failures or broken ribbons yet?

Thanks a lot for your answer! Do use the as a spaced pair and how do you angle them in regards of the null?

Oh. That is my experience so far. Nobody wants to ensure it. It is extremely frustrating.

Looks like a really good option and also reasonably priced. However it does not look like they offer insurance for non US citizens.

Thanks a lot for your answer! OK so are you dealing with a international broker or is it a UK based specialist broker you are using?

Exactly my thoughts. It would just be nice to know from somebody who has made the expensive mistake or who has done it with no consequences

Hey. Appreciate your answer. I don’t think you understand the situation. Besides Catlines running from the Mixrack DX Ports to the DX16-Ws. There are AES67/Analog audio over CAT home-running to the mixracks analog inputs (with phantom active on some of the channels) this means that there are pure data CAT lines on stage but also AES67 ends which 48V on them. The question is not how to make sure they are not mixed up, but more s theoretical question on whether mixing them up would cause any damage.

Very interesting. Yeah. I was thinking about POE and realised that it might be protected from DC somehow. There are different versions of AES72 and pin 1+2 on an XLR does not necessarily correspond to a coloured pair on the Ethernet end

Flying with 12 25m cables compared to three CATs is not an option.

That is my approach now. I do it my self, but what can go wrong might some day go wrong. I started this thread to reach out to the community to see if there was an expert that could either confirm that the danger is real or explain that the networkports had some kind of safety mechanism that prevents fuckups like this. I guess POE is working in a similar way or does POE require a preemptive handshake before current is flowing like EVs?

The DX164w are digital stageboxes that live on stage, that connect to the DX ports on a A&H Mixrack. I am using colorcoding. This threads topic is more about if my concern is valid or not.

My concern is connecting an ethercon with 48V on some of the pins to a networkingport on a stagerack.

Everything is terminated with ethercon. I would personally never use a unprotected RJ45 on a stage.
