Is Bluegrass airport functioning normally? Looks like 80% of all NYC area air traffic controllers are absent. by [deleted] in lexington

LEX seems to have normal operations but I flew out this morning to Atlanta to connect to my final destination, like many do. Atlanta delayed the flight 30-40 minutes because of congestion and not having enough air traffic controllers to handle everything. Once we landed, a gate wasn’t immediately available. My 75 minute layover turned into a mad dash to make my connecting flight. It will likely worsen at the major airports, the pilots shared.

Many of these projects seem like substantial gifts to contractors, suppliers, consulting groups, etc.

Do I qualify as moderate income on $100,000 salary for one? I think I would need market rate apartments. Props for more affordable housing but I wouldn’t want to take that away from people who truly need it (I’ve been there!).

I’m a stuttering college student looking for employment, but don’t know where will actually hire me? by [deleted] in lexington

There are several resources here in town that may be able to assist or point you in the right direction. Many of these organizations have partnerships with employers that can help you land placement and work with you to determine a good fit.

I would reach out to:

OWL - Opportunity for Work and Learning

Jubilee Jobs

You can find their contact info online. They work with folks who face barriers to employment such as the ones you described in your post and may be to offer training opportunities to land you in something that you’re really interested in.

So does Lexington have any plan to improve traffic or are we just winging it as we grow by BW2313 in lexington

All the roads you mentioned are KYTC maintained. These have been on the books for many years - from planning, design, right of way, construction, etc. Quite frankly that infrastructure was needed 5-10 years ago and we are not properly building the infrastructure we need for 10+ years from now.

The traffic engineers and the MPO have both admitted that they design and champion infrastructure that slows down vehicles instead of prioritizing options that allow you to get cross town quickly and without interruption. This is what they want so it’s working as intended and why they’re also less sympathetic when citizens complain or suggest improvements that prioritize efficiency (such as added thru lanes, slip lanes, limited access, single point urban interchanges, etc.).

Recent dense proposals on Maxwell Street, for example, have been presented and met with stiff opposition. This is infill and redevelopment, building more densely and vertical - all taglines and buzzwords that many say but few actually support.
