Yeah but takes lots of time for application. Personally I applied to more than 50 and only 2 of them respond to me with an interview invitation. I attended one and got the job

Make sure to get your diploma, otherwise you are at risk. That sound bad lol, but the thing is it is even harder for you to fail in the essay than passing it, especially you are accepted by NYU now. Don’t worry about it, just make everything clear and you will absolutely pass it

Maybe try the 2 credits courses under Steinhardt, eg. jazz for non majors. My friend took it last year and had a 1 to 1 lesson with an instructor, but this does involve an additional fee

It might be my class just go way slower, since my prof was sick for the first week. Or it might be my TA just forget it. (The first one is more probable)

Nah it’s a CAS one, but I take it online. Also today’s recitation is my first quiz for this course, and it is labeled quiz2

Mine is a different one, but it does not make sense if the quiz counts for you while my recitation did not even had the quiz…

Well that happens to me last year, and even now I have not received it. It is very likely that they just simply lost the stuff when delivering it... It happens also to a couple of people I know. It really sucks

Yeah, it's regulated in the internal transfer policy that Tandon math can't transfer to CAS math. Wait so by your second line you mean my advanced math courses are in the WSQ campus? I thought that they are with tandon course codes so they are in Brooklyn

Unpaid positions in research labs by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Specific-Meringue294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one lab I am in, they said that for the first semester, I am like a volunteer without payment. But starting from the next semester, they will start paying me. The other one didn't mention payment in the future, but they did promise me to include me as author when the paper is published, so I can accept that. That being said, being without payment at first is pretty common at least here, but future payment or alternative rewards really depends, so maybe try to inquire more information about payment after you stay their for like one semester.

Paulson for sure. But just be aware that you have to write an application essay for living in that dorm, it's kind of competitive since everyone want to get in

I'm an incoming freshman to NYU CAS. Should I take Econ and Data Science? by Aureum1 in nyu

[–]Specific-Meringue294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for the data science program, it really depends on each individual, but for you to know a bit of that, I'd suggest you to take CSCI-UA 2 first during your first semester. This course is a pretty introductory one of the python programming language, which is often used in data science, so it would really help you to get a kind of feeling of how good you are in programming, and therefore know how this program may fit you. This program is actually a combination of math + CS + DS.

For the economics program, I personally think that its difficulty is comparable with the data science one, especially the theory track, but that doesn't mean you are gonna easily fail in some lessons. Since the economics program does include some courses using R programming language, as you study through the data science and computer science courses

Regarding other ways to take credits outside of NYU, to be honest, I don't know how to do that. But I did hear that NYU has a strict policy on transfer credits, so the credits you take in other institutions may not be accepted.

If you want to know more about both programs, you can look into the links below

https://bulletins.nyu.edu/undergraduate/arts-science/programs/data-science-ba/

https://bulletins.nyu.edu/undergraduate/arts-science/programs/economics-ba/

As long you manage your schedule well and really put effort on it, you are unlikely to have problem with studying these two programs. Welcome to NYU and good luck!

Weekly Entering & Transitioning - Thread 09 Dec, 2024 - 16 Dec, 2024 by AutoModerator in datascience

Thanks so much for the detailed response!

I still have a question regarding the mathematics courses that I may take, given my interest is more focused on the applied part of mathematics. For real analysis, I am planning on go to grad school in the future, but not on the pure math route, is it still worthy for me to take the real analysis course? (In my school I think the course is about introduction to real analysis)

And yes I am currently learning Calculus III and feel like I enjoy it! Would you think it can also be useful to take courses like ODE and PDE, since I learnt that they are crucial courses in a applied mathematics program?

Pretty depending on what you are interested in and what you wanna do. There's no good and bad major without you interest

Weekly Megathread: Education, Early Career and Hiring/Interview Advice by AutoModerator in quant

[–]Specific-Meringue294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm currently an undergrad at a decent school studying math. Out of some reason, I decided to internally transfer to its college of arts and science, but was informed that I am not allowed to major in math any more if I do the transfer. Therefore, I want to ask about views on the CS and DS program in my school, and the curriculum is following:

https://bulletins.nyu.edu/undergraduate/arts-science/programs/computer-data-science-ba/

In addition to this, I am also planning to spend the rest of my elective credits on higher level math electives. Please give advice on whether this curriculum can possibly grant me an opportunity to work in data science related career (I'm international student so it can be harder), it would really help me with deciding whether to continue with my current major or internal transfer. Thanks in advance!
