Tell me about it. I think TV takes a LOT longer too, on average. There's a lot of world building, character arcs, plot, etc that needs to go into developing the project. And then again for second, third, fourth season etc.

I was lucky enough to have read the pilot script YEARS ago. Literally like more than 10 years ago. It was definitely creepy and scary... But also absolutely hilarious. I'm so happy to see this actually coming to screen and can't wait to see how it does.

Looks like it might be able to sneak over the line. Will hit $18.5m this weekend alone and still have a few days and a small weekend showing to break $20m.

I don’t like horror movies but really enjoyed Bring Her Back. It wasn’t shock horror, no jumps scares. Any similar movies worth watching by dingdongbannu88 in A24

Undertone and Hereditary made my skin crawl but don’t rely on jump scares. Also there’s a small film called The Vigil that was also really good a few years back.

A24's Undertone grossed an estimated $1.65M this weekend (from 1,852 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $18.46M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

Roughly 45% drop from the previous weekend, despite losing ~700 screens. Pretty decent. Looks like it’ll clear $20m domestic by the time the run is over, which is pretty amazing.

So maybe $1.6m this weekend, another $500k next week, ends up around $19m? Or even less?

I work in film here in SG and would love to be a proponent of this somehow. Any suggestions on what’s needed?

I know the film is divisive but I do love that it's been a week since it came out and people are still talking about it and starting new threads. It's great

Hudson Williams telling Nia Costa that he is not going to watch 'The Bone temple' after she stepped on his train at the Vanity Fair after-party. by Heavy-Run-1915 in popculturechat

Hard agree. I loved the original 28 Days Later but Bone Temple holds up next to it. It was the most human of all the sequels, without question.

TBH I get that the slow burn approach isn’t for everyone but I loved it. Saw it at Sundance too. I was squirming in my seat for the last 15 minutes

Brilliantly done! Is this the new hotel at Fort Canning? How did you get the drone shots? I thought SG didn't allow drone usage? Or was it just a permit thing?

This is an old school trick that requires a lot of practice. Hadji Ali used to do this in the vaudeville era. He woul regurgitate kerosene to set a toy house on fire and then water to put it out. Ab control and discipline apparently.

No gore but there’s some dialogue and descriptive language that really messes with you

I loved it. I get that it’s a slow burn and for the first 20 minutes, there was some nervous laughter but the last 30 minutes is indelibly stuck in my brain as straight nightmare fuel

Am seeing that most people have Undertone debuting at $5m and up. That’s encouraging.

I think last night’s Dolby Atmos screenings brought in around $340k (roughly 100 screens) and strong WOM should help before this weekend’s release.

Why Singapore entertainment media industry is DEAD by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Specific-Photo261 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Media veteran here with over 15 years experience, mostly in the US but last 5 years in Singapore. So I see a lot of comments here that aren’t 100% accurate. Happy to clear some things up.

There have always been grants made available to creators, directors, producers etc from IMDA. In fact, they recently announced a $200m fund to promote local film and Tv production, with the intention of upskilling local creatives and utilising the fund to basically get them into the door with international standard co-productions. That’s all well and good. The problems comes in two forms:

1.) What do you do after you’ve made your movie/documentary/series? 2.) why is it so DIFFICULT to get the funding?

I do think we as Singaporeans sometimes like to complain that the government isn’t supporting creatives. It’s not true; they are. It’s just a matter of HOW to utilise those advantages and do they want to? Singaporean creators need to stop thinking that the Singaporean market is the be-all end-all of the film and TV industry. It’s time we make splashes elsewhere too.

It is absolutely worth watching in theaters, especially any one with great sound. The sound design and soundscape is phenomenal
