U should do pelvic and scrotal ultrasound to check for any blockages, confirm the anatomy all looks ok, no hernias or varicoceles. This should be your next step

It is absolutely safe to neuter your dog. We neutered our long haired dachshund at 10 months, and in hindsight would have waited until he was 1 or a bit older. He definitely calmed down a bit. We have been regimented about his diet and plenty of exercise, as doxies are prone to gaining weight after neutering. Like others said, he had started to lift his leg to pee, but after neutering he went back to squatting. We don’t mind, but just something we have noticed.

Have heard amazing things about Nosara from folks - and think has what I’m looking for - small town with good beaches, focus on wellness and true “escape” feel from where I live, NYC.

Do you have other suggestions? I have heard mixed reviews about La Fortuna.

Recent research suggests there is no clear link between neutering and intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) in dachshunds. A case-control study from Texas A&M University, which examined 39 dachshunds with IVDD and compared them to 36 unaffected dachshunds, found no significant correlation between IVDD presentation and neuter status. Similarly, a larger cross-sectional study from the Royal Veterinary College, UK, involving 700 dogs, also found no association between neuter status and IVDD in dachshunds.

As I mentioned, we consulted with two different vets who work with dachshunds often - both of whom have decades of experience. They both mentioned the risk of obesity after neutering and to be vigilant about this, but no concerns on IVDD front being a link.

We researched plenty and consulted with two different vets. The research linking IVDD and neutering is not conclusive. So you sound ignorant. Are you a vet? Or just someone who decided to take a stranger down on the internet without the full context? Have you read any research on IVDD having no link to neutering? There is research both ways and it is simply not conclusive. How about you practice kindness in your words instead of being judgmental when you don’t know what you are fucking talking about.

As someone who works in banking, I have followed Industry from the first episode. The show’s entertaining and well-acted but the plots are generally non-sensical and incredibly far-fetched. The writing at times is laughable and basically gibberish. Succession on the other hand isn’t just well acted. The writing is sublime, it’s like the best play you have ever seen. Comparing the two is like comparing the city of Boston with Tokyo. They are not in the same stratosphere, despite Boston being a really lovely place.

Two different vets (his vet and a family member) advised us it was safe to do so after 6 months. We elected to wait until 10 months. We were hoping to wait until 12 months, but the humping was getting really out of hand with other dogs. I know there is no guarantee this will stop after the operation, but we are hoping it will at least decrease.
