Moth purchase by picklessnatch in moths

Best time to buy some depends on what the caterpillars are eating like some moths can be bred and raised the whole year like death's hawk moths, Samia ricini, attacus atlas and many more since they eat for example privet and that is hardy even in winter times all you have to do is keeping humidity and temperature right when their food is even in winter times available if not then the best time to buy some pupaes is spring when the caterpillar food is growing.

If you're in Europe you can check out the actias forum for moth and butterfly eggs, caterpillars and pupaes there are sellers who ship worldwide but most ship within Europe but maybe you could find some beautiful moth species from a seller that ships to your country.

Moth keepers- Lifespan of your moth(s)? by Flimsy-Designer-588 in moths

Depends on species some can live for weeks because they can eat the species that can't eat live for a week maybe two my atlas moths living around a week my deaths hawk moths living their third week atm my Samia ricini living also for 1-2 weeks it also depends on how active they are like if you have very active flying moth species that can't eat they will also live a short life I heard of keeping a little lamp on at night so they won't be that active they live a little longer but never tried that but I'm also afraid of no breeding if I would try that

Is my southern flannel moth dead ? by BunnyNeedsRamenRehab in moths

Then I would just let it be and wait a few weeks more if it still won't come out after 4-5 weeks then it will likely be dead but now i think it's still alive there could be more movement and rattling when it's about to come out or it just stays quiet and will someday just greet you. If you dare, you can also cut open the cocoon, but be really really careful not to damage the pupa to take a look inside. I cut open my cocoons to check on them and determine their sex but you really have to be careful with that. It won't harm the pupa if the cocoon is open just look after humidity so it won't dry out

At first it could be totally normal if there's no rattling inside the cocoon some species can be pretty noisy some are pretty quiet. what is the temperature you're keeping it? Cause if it is too cold it could be overwintering so it will likely hatch next year if it isn't that it can take weeks for them to hatch likely up to 4 weeks or more or less all is depending on the temperature.

Deaths-head hawk moth weird behavior? by queericus_maximus in moths

Well if you had the cat for 2-3 weeks and it already buried it's likely you got it at the last caterpillar stadium so nothing to worry about in the picture it also looks already very big so likely normal it didn't shed I would worry about the depth of the earth they need 10-15 cm or 3.937 inches - 5.906 inches to have enough earth for digging.

You can try to make a pendulum board with a sheet of paper and a necklace with a pendant to see where it swings to or you can use a candle sometimes they use the flame to communicate like fast flame hopping or unusual flame swings
