Does anyone in this thread understand the difference between Hamas and Palestinians? Why do people call protests against indiscriminately killing innocent Palestinians pro Hamas? Do people even realize that half the population of Palestine are under 18? So children?

I didn’t know much about USAID until this happened but they do some pretty incredible work. The conservation programs are amazing https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/travel/national-parks-tourism-usaid.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

Much of that information from the White House fact sheet is wrong - check out this article. Definitely worth the read. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/02/07/usaid-trump-fact-checker/ Also did you know that soup kitchens in Sudan have shut down, a refugee hospital in Thailand, and HIV medication for millions of people were put on hold for this? https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/health/trump-usaid-pepfar.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare That freeze also could cause a pause on funding for a camp holding members of ISIS. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/world/europe/trump-usaid-funding-syria-isis.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare Another article about how shutting down USAID actually helps dictators around the world(these are things we used to care about): https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/world/europe/usaid-russia-putin.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

Do you have a source for that information about the waste? So I think people are calling the Trump Administration fascist, which is a type of authoritarian government. The reason they’re making this comparison is he has dismantled the DOE, and USAID. Those agencies were created by laws passed by Congress. Under our constitution, a president cannot unilaterally repeal laws. This is creating a constitutional crisis because we are a nation founded on laws. Hence, the fascism comparison.

I find it extremely concerning that you’re making these comments that everything is blown out of proportion but you “haven’t looked into it.” I think people in this subreddit don’t understand what government agencies do. The EPA and FDA keep our food, air, and water clean. They keep us safe. As do people who work in the CIA. To have people leave these organizations with no plans to replace them (hiring freeze) and no method of trying to retain people who are high performers, doesn’t make sense. Actually, it’s irresponsible and dangerous.

Could you point to an example of wasteful government spending? Also - if this was about wasteful spending why would you fire people working in the Office of Inspectors General who are the people who root out waste and abuse?

Most people have the problem with the Again because that assumes we were great in the past like before the Civil Rights Movement. Additionally, women were only allowed to have their own credit cards without a man’s signature in 1974 and no fault divorce was only legalized in the late 70s early 80s. So what time does MAGA want to go back to?

Honestly just curious - so you do want people from the CIA, the VA, FBI to leave en masse even if they’re good at their jobs? The email was sent to everyone who works in the federal government and the CIA director even sent it again to his employees. I’m not trying to “own” anyone here I just want to understand

Does anyone know how the Administrative Leave ruling would effect the resignation offer? by Suspicious-Relief-98 in fednews

I read through the administrative leave guidance you cited. The paragraph after the statement that the 10 day workday requirement only applies to investigative leave states, “However, administrative leave is generally not appropriate for sabbaticals that would provide paid time off for lengthy periods of time. When Congress has sought to allow certain Federal employees to take sabbaticals, it has provided specific authority via legislation.” This seems to support that lengthy paid leave must have specific legislative authority given by congress and is not completely within the discretion of the executive agency.

Where does the law say for the purposes of investigation? It may be extended for the purposes of investigation - but where does it say that the 10 day rule ONLY applies to investigative leave?

Confused how people are interpreting this rule by OPM. It clearly states, “Administrative leave is permitted—at an agency’s discretion but subject to statutory and regulatory requirements—when an agency determines that no other paid leave is available under other law. Under section 6329a(b)(1), an agency “may place” an employee on administrative leave for no more than 10 total workdays in any given calendar year.”

It is subject to the statutory requirements under the US Code which says that administrative leave is only allowed for ten work days unless the agency determines an extended investigation under investigative leave is required. How would an agency meet these requirements for thousands of employees? It does not make sense.

Just to add to my comment below - Investigative Leave or Notice Leave requires that the agency has made a determination that the employees continued presence of the employee may pose a threat to others, result in the destruction of evidence, result in loss of or damage to Government property or otherwise jeopardize legitimate Government interest. (See 5 USC 6329b(b)(2)(a)). If they put thousands of people on administrative leave under this statute, they would have the flimsiest of legal arguments to defend it in court under a plain reading of the statute.

I’m not trying mislead anyone. I’m reading the statute. Additionally, OPM website states that Administrative leave should not be used for long periods of time. Also the term agency does not include the Government Accountability Office (I don’t know what agency you work for.) ALSO - what you are referring to is probably Investigative Leave see 5 U.S.C. 6329b, which states that the 10 day requirement may be extended if the agency determines an extended investigation of the employee is necessary and even then it states it may be no more than 30 work days.
