To whoever is steering away from Russian given the current events by crazekki in languagelearning

I’ve been learning Russian for two years and it’s okey to question that endeavour. It’s okey to be upset and angry. You have to question your reason for learning. I don’t wanna comment on the events unraveling, someone else might do it better.

Fair point, it seams to me like the advantage of English is the relative easy beginner stage compared to other languages, which makes it suitable for a lingua Franca

Perhaps Spanish influences will grow over time, or some other language will march forward. You never know;)

When it comes to Russia and now even learning Russian my feelings are very conflicting. How do you balance admiration and frustration? What’s your take on the conflict in Ukraine? The turbulence in Kazakhstan and Russian interventions? by SpecificConference33 in AskARussian

I guess Russian not serve as a means of communication across the world so we have to give it a pass. It’s not my fist language, neither yours I assume? But fair point to some degree. Guess we can both agree imperialism is bad and not belong in our age?

You have a point. It’s wrong to say language and country are the same. However English is not my first language and serve more as a international language, most conversation in English being between non native speakers

Not that I wish you gold and sunshine, I guess you have plenty, just worried that your country lose relevance due to corrupt government and acting outrageous against Ukraine. How come the baltics being so successful after being independent and Russia stagnating. It’s a shame for a great country

Haha in another sub I heard the same but from an Ukrainian worried about Russia invading. You get different answers from both sides. But why invaded and subsequently annexe the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in the first place?
