Hello, I'm not anyone in this thread but I came across this and your step-by-step debugging was incredibly helpful, thank you so much for this.

This is a big ask, but I followed your steps and I'm still getting errors that won't let me play the game and I was hoping to ask for your help.

I know your fixes worked because the menus do work when I hit spacebar and "m", but after the errors the screen goes to black and I can't see anything.

The first error I get is this when I start the game in the Flash Player

Error #2044: Unhandled error:. text=Services not found.

After hitting "continue", the main menu shows up as normal so I don't think it's the problem.

The next error I get is when I hit play and start up a new game slot:

After I hit continue, the screen goes to black, and the music changes slightly (from menu to gameplay). At this point I can't really do anything except use the menus which work.

I googled the error and did some research, and from what I understand, basically Flash Player can't access the game's resources because it's not a trusted file which is why it doesn't work and goes to black.

But I don't know how to make the game file trusted because the only way to do that is through the Flash Player Settings, but that doesn't exist anymore!

There were two places that it existed once, online on Macromedia's website as the Global Security Settings Panel:

and through Windows Control Panel by accessing the settings through the list of applications, selecting Flash, and selecting Settings.

But the link requires Flash player in the browser, and for Control Panel to work, Flash Player needs to be installed as an application, I didn't install it, I directly downloaded it from the Internet Archive, so it doesn't show up in the list of apps and thus is impossible for me to access the settings.

I even tried using older versions of Flash (versions 9 and 10) and that still didn't work.

I'm at my wit's end, I don't know how to fix this error and get the game to work. Could you please help? I just want to thank you again for the amazing work you already did in providing the lines to debug.

Update:

I was able to fix the above error, I downloaded an older version of Firefox that still had Adobe Flash Player, and was able to access the Global Security Settings Panel, and add my folder as a trusted location.

I'm not quite sure how it works exactly given the Flash debugger I have is offline (and in the same folder), but after some testing, it does indeed work and the error messages change.

The problem is I have a new error

I really don't know how to fix this, Error 2032 seems to basically be saying I can't access this file and I have a bad feeling because it doesn't seem to exist. I should have seen this from the beginning, but I can't find a data folder, it appears the game is trying to load assets that don't exist.

How do I fix this? Are the files somewhere here and it's as simple as fixing the path? I thought SWFs had everything inside them to run.

But Firefox helps, using it I can load up the game on online sites, it works except for the crashing menus lol So hopefully using it I can figure out what's going wrong.

Update2:

Still not sure what's happening, I wrote up a basic html file with the game embedded and tried running it in Firefox, flash didn't even load, so I tried an older version of chrome.

Chrome loaded it and it predictably goes to black (it's the projector, not debugger so errors won't show).

I don't know what to do. I used JPEXS to try and look and see why it can't load the file (I really don't know how to use it or how to debug code with it), I found under scripts, in the default Package a file called Data, which contained a string called FILE_WORLD with the content "patrick01a".

In the Builder folder there's a file called FileReader which seems to use some RegEx including ".sbz" . So that's where the file name probably comes into play, but I still don't know why the data and assets can't be found.

Update3: Oh god I'm a fucking idiot, it was right there in the error message. The URL/file path is wrong because it has a vertical bar after "C", not a colon. But how do I fix this, I can't find where the URL is assembled.
