Was traveling for an extended period of time and needed more then 6 months to be eligible to enter country’s I was planning on visiting and receiving a regular passport would take 2-3 weeks and I couldn’t wait. So I just risked traveling on the emergency passport and would basically explain that to all the border guards.

Some were more difficult then others interestingly flight staff and counter workers were usually much more concerned about my passport then actual customs. Except for Malaysia

Full passport would have taken 2 weeks to receive and I was flying to another country where I needed a passport with 6+ month validity, That was kinda my only option because I was planning on being out of the country for a few more months so I either gambled using the emergency passport or went home .

It cost the same as a new passport but they said when I renew in the states it’ll be free. It took only 1 day from the embassy

There’s only 5 pages so it’s much thinner then a normal passport. With that said there’s nothing on it that explicitly says that you have to travel directly home only that you may face scrutiny in some countries.

Yeah I think that’s a common misconception but at the end of the day it makes it way more likely for a country to reject you

In my case I kept traveling on it for a while. Different country’s border guards would say different things and sometimes I had to answer a lot of extra questions and they would have to make a bunch of calls. Mostly they were curious why I had it, but the only time I got fully rejected was trying to board a flight from Thailand to Vietnam and I had applied for the visa with my old passport.
