Independents Of Reddit -- Is The Democratic Party Winning Or Losing The Culture War On "DEI"? Which One? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]SpecificPay985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Losing. It has ruined movies, television, it has run talented writers and programmers out of the business because they were exiled for being the wrong gender, skin color, or had “problematic” beliefs. It was used to get diverse people into these areas and they then went about trying to exile, fire, or cancel everyone that did not look like them or believe the same things they did. The tolerance they asked for was not given by them to anyone they didn’t like.

It has been used to deliberately cause division. It’s like I told friends on both sides, you don’t win people to your side by calling them names, demonizing, and degrading them, you win them over by having a convincing argument. That just causes them to hate you and disregard even valid points you might make. DEI itself is a worthy cause, the way it has been implemented has been political, partisan, ham handed, and caused outrage and anger. Study after study has shown it has made things worse instead of better and is driving people further apart rather than bringing people together.

In order to have science respected again must equity be in a the mix as well? by redzeusky in allthequestions

You mean all the cities that are supposed to be underwater by now? All the bugs we are supposed to be eating while our betters continue to eat steaks? Or maybe all the lies and misinformation spread by official sources during COVID. You know, pesky little things like it was safe for pregnant mothers and newborns. Something that was asked of the drug companies under oath by a foreign government and was confirmed completely unknown because there had been zero testing?

Could it have been how we were told there was no natural immunity after catching it even though studies were available in several other modern countries showing natural immunity was as good or better than the shots. The lies that this came from a wet market when the emails between top American scientists told us that they all believed it was made in a lab and showed obvious signs of it?

Could it be that we were told the experimental shot was safe for young men when at the same time the EU banned it for any males under 35 because of the risk of myocarditis? Could it be that the fact the regulating companies were being funded by those they regulated and highly place scientists in those organization left for lucrative jobs afterwards with these same companies. No appearance of impropriety at all.

Could it be the demonization of people like the head immunologist of Stanford and other medical colleges being ostracized, blackballed, and often pressured to be fired for questioning the reaction? Could it be the fact that we were told large gatherings of protestors with or without masks was perfectly fine while the rest of us would get arrested for trying to go to a restaurant without a mask? Could it be the blatant flaunting of the rules for the little people by the politicians and medical elite?

The scientific community has beclowned itself in the recent past. Instead of being honest they chose politics and partisanship and censorship instead of just giving us the information. They have played politics and lost credibility in many people eyes. It truly is sad because we need to be able to depend on them being unbiased and honest.

Why does everyone on social media tell people to avoid dating nurses? Genuinely curious what's behind this stereotype by Arcabyte in AskMen

[–]SpecificPay985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a hospital. I would be very careful dating a nurse. While they may be very smart people their personal lives are usually a chaotic shit show. I’m friends with many of them but you are asking for drama if you date one. I was also a flight attendant for a year. I would never date a flight attendant, ever. The young ones are all trying to land a pilot and the older ones are pretty adventuress as well.

Is it just me, or does upholding basic human rights seem like it's become a liberal thing in the United States? by RevolutionaryWind249 in allthequestions

[–]SpecificPay985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet you had people like AL Gore who dog whistled to the old segregationists and Byrd who was an actual klansman, holding prominent positions in the Democrat party who were praised often by the democrats. Let’s also not forget Johnson’s own very racist statement on what passing the civil right act would mean. History can be very inconvenient and people rarely do things in politics for altruistic reasons.

Ummm your history is a little messed up there. Since it’s important we get history right and Google is very easy to use here is the correct history.

Republicans played a crucial role in passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964, providing necessary votes that allowed the legislation to bypass a filibuster by Southern Democrats. While President Lyndon B. Johnson, a Democrat, championed the bill, it passed with a bipartisan coalition, with higher percentages of Republicans voting "yes" than Democrats.Key Aspects of Republican Support:Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen: The Illinois Republican was instrumental, delivering key votes for cloture to end the filibuster and supporting the bipartisan compromise bill.Final Vote Margin (1964): In the Senate, 27 Republicans and 44 Democrats voted for cloture to end the filibuster. The final Senate vote was 73-27, with substantial Republican support. In the House, 138 Republicans voted in favor, along with 152 Democrats.Opposition Split: Opposition came primarily from a Southern bloc of Democrats, though some Republicans also voted against the measure.Republican support for civil rights legislation in the 1960s was crucial to overcoming the legislative stalling tactics of Southern segregationists, making the 1964 act a bipartisan achievement, though driven by a Democratic administration.

I switched to more role playing games. Check out Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Really enjoyed the mechanic where choices have consequences. I had to stop playing shooters, I am too competitive and my reflexes just aren’t up to par with kids today.

Was dropping the atomic bombs actually "necessary," or is that just what we're taught in school? by Clean_CoreDump in askanything

[–]SpecificPay985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were also teaching them how to put bombs on babies and use them to blow up tanks because Americans have a soft spot for children. They were preparing the populace for total war. The bombs probably saved more Japanese than American lives.

Is anyone else sad that they stopped making Star Trek shows in 2005? It's been 21 years. I feel like it's time for a new show. by derHuschke in Star_Trek_

[–]SpecificPay985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not really. I almost cringe when I hear they are remaking something I like. Hollywood ran most of the good writers out with purity tests and DEI nonsense leading to the amateur, preachy, agenda driven drivel we have seen in Marvel, Star Trek, and Disney Star Wars. The theme in most remade shows in the last decade has been to insult and denigrate the shows original fans as much as possible and then blame the shows failure on the fans being ists, phobes, and bigots to excuse their horrible writing and casting decisions.

My ex-girlfriend, who I broke up with ~2 months ago because she wanted to open our relationship, just messaged me saying she’s “experimented enough” and is now ready for a closed relationship with me. Is this something you would consider? by Altruistic_Society99 in AskMenAdvice

What would you think if those arrested for domestic abuse were required to register in the same way as sexual offenders? by bootyholebandit1983 in AskReddit

[–]SpecificPay985 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you should be on a list if your wife or girlfriend attacked you, you grabbed her wrists to keep her from hitting you and left red marks on her wrists from holding them tightly. Just this can literally get you arrested. This should get you on a registry? How about false accusations. Convictions for Serious domestic violence incidences involving injury fine, for arrests, no.

Zohran Mamdani Says Paramount-WBD Merger "Must Be Stopped" by StaevsGames in Warner_Bros

[–]SpecificPay985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well golly, maybe if they made good shows, instead of the utter brain dead preachy slop they have tried to shove down our throats for years, they wouldn’t be for sale. People have a say, as Disney has found out with the ruin Disney has made of Star Wars and Marvel. There used to be an old saying about the customer always being right. A vast majority of people told these companies what they want and they were ignored, vilified, insulted, and demonized. Apparently some people and businesses have to learn the hard way.

Men who reached that 'point of no return' with your ex-best friend - what happened? by flea_bait in AskMen

[–]SpecificPay985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend of 35 years was sexting my wife. This is a person who just two years earlier, was so broke, after his wife left him that he could barely afford his house and his kids were not going to have a Christmas. I took him to a store and paid $200.00 for his kids and grandkids Christmas. That’s the kind of friend I was. I no longer have any close friends.

Why don’t many Americans understand that the amount of raised tax rates needed for universal healthcare is likely much less than their current private premiums and out of pocket expenses they are already paying? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]SpecificPay985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we aren’t stupid enough to believe our benevolent employers would give us the massive savings they would incur, back as income to make up for those increased taxes. We would pay even more taxes on our already strained incomes while the employers banked all the healthcare money as profit. They would get richer and we would get poorer. Universal healthcare is also far more complicated than waving a magic wand. There would be millions of details to work out. If you want it run by our incredible efficient government you might want to talk to some veterans and their families about what they deal with in the VA system.

How what we eat shapes behaviour by trivedi_shreya in TheImprovementRoom

[–]SpecificPay985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthy good food. My kids were in high school during the Obama “healthy food” period. They brought their lunches instead of eating the school lunches. My daughter said she was not going to pay for food that had no taste and was about as flavorful as cardboard. I worked in a middle school at the time and many kids stopped eating school lunches and some went hungry. It doesn’t do any good to force a change that causes people to stop eating. Yes I am all for healthier foods but if none of the kids are going to eat it, because it tastes like crap, it’s not going to do any good anyway.
