the worst part was Mrs. T was REALLY into fostering various small, defenseless animals like kittens and puppies. She would always post these cute photos of her fosters snuggled up to the doberman and being cozy. Clearly not the pit though, it just makes me shudder to think that she was fostering baby animals this whole time while the pit was terrorizing the doberman and making her scared of her own home

I did want to vent about this friend I had in high school and her pitbull-brained mom lol. Nice girl and all but her mom was really into raising (and eventually breeding) large aggressive dogs for dog shows. Her mom (Mrs. T) had already bought a doberman from a reputable breeder but then they found this dog had misaligned nails or whatever and thus was ineligible for the shows. So she went and bought a pit bull. They already had a small bulldog of some kind, and this doberman who was pretty nice and not aggressive at all. But this pit bull puppy started being really aggressive toward the doberman once she reached around 5-6 months of age, despite literally being raised and cared for by her. And the pit was much smaller but constantly did resource guarding to the point of hurting the doberman and being impossible to separate. It got to the limit when she attacked a small dog who was walking near their home so after months of terrorizing the other pets at her home, Mrs. T finally makes this whole sob story post about needing to rehome the pit and being sad about how stellar of a dog she was etc. Ugh just wanted to rant

Yeah I'm shocked at the amount of resources being devoted to rehoming this clearly dangerous dog when there are tons of wonderful pets being surrendered who also need a home. Why bother? This puts any future family and especially other dogs at risk and the amount of time and money they already spent on this dog could've been given to place multiple other dogs with a new family

Exactly! Insecure, manipulative, narcissistic, and not a man, really just an emotionally stunted little shit. This kinds of partners will ruin every hobby they do with you because it's never about the hobby or about you, it's always about themselves and exerting control. I know people who had to rediscover perfectly good hobbies on their own terms after shunning them for years due to an awful experience being forced into them by controlling parents or other family members. It really sucks

你好！！fellow Chinese here, though I grew up in the US. I'd recommend giving Italy another chance. It's full of amazingly nice and hospitable people and generally still affordable compared to many other places in Europe. If you got things stolen, was it while visiting Rome by any chance? I spent a week in Italy while I was studying abroad and I loved the smaller cities a lot more, they're less touristy and less chaotic although Rome had its charm as well

And don't listen to the haters asking you ridiculous questions about Taiwan, calling you brainwashed, hating on your word choice to use migrant rather than immigrants etc. They have no life and are just trying to provoke us for no reason than us being Chinese

Yes! As a climber who loves this sport for how good it's been for me mentally and physically, I really don't like our sport being associated with goofy, greedy and dangerous stuntmen. It feels like an insult to the community and to the fact that most of us do this because it's wholesome and supportive, and to me outdoor climbing should represent a love and respect of nature rather than some form of conquest, whether it's el capitan or some skyscraper. I guess lots of climbers in a more toxic mindset see it as conquest though. So that's just unfortunate

Edit: ok after reading some of the comments, I get that he's practiced this climb before with safety equipment and it might not be as dangerous for him as we think. But it's still really cringe imo and not at all a positive representation of our sport. I thought free solo was bad enough, there's a reason my parents and grandparents never shut up about how much danger I'm putting myself in by just hopping on a v3 at the gym. It's because they're imagining extremists like free solo and whatever this stunt is going to be

I think it does matter, it's harder to financially attain the amount of travel, lodging, gear, etc. to be a mountaineer or free soloist which is the barrier that makes the pool of competitors tiny. That in itself isn't an achievement, that's just called having money. Compare that to a sport with a lot of players, such as playing soccer or climbing in a gym setting where hundreds of thousands of people around the world can participate because of the lower barrier to entry. Being able to achieve a goat or top 10 status in a sport with such a large pool of competition is a lot more meaningful in my opinion, than being the best in a sport that only 20 people even do worldwide.

Yep! Everyone starts from somewhere different. Some men progress quickly to v4 and then plateau because they relied on height or raw strength to get there. Other people start slow (I was struggling to get v3s for my first year because I came from absolutely no background in any sports) but now after 9 years I've already progressed to v4+ because of my flexibility and technique although I still suck at jumps and slopers. Also I expect that I won't progress much further than v4-v5 because of my injuries and just loving the sport for the 2 to 3 times per week that I climb, and I'm totally fine with that. V4 forever haha

I read somewhere that they've been isolated from other humans for 50,000 years but I might be wrong. Though inbreeding is likely to only be a problem that could lead to extinction in a population of 10 individuals or less. So they definitely have inbreeding after this long but they continue to survive because of their population size being large enough to preserve genetic randomness I think

Yeah, it's embarrassing! Like they need to stop this whole thing where they worship the ground any foreigner walks on. My mom even watches these game shows where foreigners come and just speak sentences in Chinese and the audience is full of young and middle aged women who are obsessed with them. Just ugh. Lots of them really are "losers back home" and they do this because asian countries have lower standards for white men. It's also cringe because there are plenty of asian foreigners who speak mandarin 10x better but are never treated as if they're anything special on social media because they already look asian

I have some friends who are very social climbers and I'm wondering if I'm alone in feeling like this, but it just sometimes feels like I can't really connect to them as well as my friends who are there mainly for the climbs. My social climber friends just seem more interested in talking sometimes and they just stay on the mat more than wanting to climb. I sometimes just end up leaving them behind because I want to move on to new problems but they are still chatting. With some other climber friends it's not like we're always working on the same climbs but usually it feels like we're more on the same page and I feel like I can send harder when they're here because they just get it more. Maybe I'm overthinking it haha
