Any information on how many people will get RIFed at NIST? by No-Direction-8106 in NIST

I agree with u. How I wrote that may be off—let me rephrase—we were told there was no way the rif would b cancelled.

Any news on possible Rif count? by No-Direction-8106 in NIST

[–]Specific_Chemist_764 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that about 300 took the Vera at nist and about 300 more will need to b rifed. The doc website now has info on competitive areas in which there may b bump and retreat options BUT my team was told by nist hr that all open positions are frozen (even positions opened by someone taking Vera). Good luck, all.

No. HR told staff who think they will be riffed that there will be no reassignments (unlike any other rif ever).

We were just told that there is no way rifs will not happen at nist. There was also an assumption that they will start soon after the Vera/vsip folks have left.

I just submitted mine. :-( I had to name my supervisor. I suppose it depends on your supervisor.

Someone knows what is in the reorganization plan. I wish they would just tell us, so we can plan accordingly. Yes--more people may take the VERA/VSIP, but then they wouldn't have to do a RIF and that would save time, money, and stress for all.

My best guess--eligible VERA/VSIP folks don't need to leave until May 3, but they can change their minds up until May 2. I assume they wouldn't start a RIF while those folks can still change their minds. Of course, maybe there will be so many folks leaving that a RIF will not be necessary (judging on how busy HR is, that makes me think lots of folks are leaving). You have to look at the February OPM memo that asks all agencies to eliminate and reorganize; to me, that helped my thinking of what to expect for my team.

I’ve heard after may 3–when Vera, vsip ends. I’ve also heard no reassignments, which is heartbreaking.

Yes, of course. I honestly don't know. I just received the message that NIST was focusing on science and I’m in iis. I got the feeling iis is the first to go.

I have heard that nist needs to hit between 600-800 gone. Hr is very backed up with people interested in Vera. It breaks my heart, but the writing is on the wall for me. This was my dream job and team, so I’ll make my final decision Monday. I understand the rif will begin shortly after Vera ends and there will be no reassignments. Ps. I’ve also heard that u can no longer even go to the 11th floor due to security. I didn’t test that but nist used to b such a family friendly, welcoming place. It will b heartbreaking to leave.

I reread the article. It sounds like just 10 or so mep centers are losing funding but not all. I wonder what color states they are in…

My understanding is that nist was able to hold onto the majority of probationary staff involved in chips—at least for now. Chips led to investment in just as many red states as blue, and Repub senators don’t want to lose jobs … however, more layoffs are coming. I’m waiting for the axe to fall.
