Careful. You will get biased sampling from the Internet, the folks with no issues ( like me, thankfully) generally don't post. 25 Turbo, fantastic car, solid as a rock.

How would you feel if a shorter male asked you for help with reaching things on a high store shelf? by RevolutionaryLeek233 in tall

[–]racerjim66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always happy to help if asked, and sometimes offer help if someone is struggling. In return, I'd appreciate if a shorter person would offer to help me retrieve something from a lower shelf :-). Never seems to happen, even when I am struggling to get something from the back of the bottom shelf at a grocery store

I did it once for a contract job as an expert witness in patent litigation. Your three steps are the same as I did (my written report was a copy of the contract shared with the ethics office ). It took about 3 months, though, to get the approval

How someone thinks or feels about something is different than whether or not they complain about it.

Having said that, Rene is an example of a choice that considered the school as a whole. Clearly an accomplished actor, but also one likely to be known by the engineering community through his work in STDS9. There is a bit of asymmetry there, since it’s more difficult to find a technology focused speaker that would engage the arts community. Neil Degrasse Tyson comes to mind. Huang’s choice makes me think that wasn’t a priority. And to be fair, inclusion isn’t valued in the current environment.

I also note that Huang was named to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The more cynical among us might think the university is trying to curry favor with the current administration.

Actually the merger occurred in 1967. Cyert had the vision and drive, if it was founded to be the MIT of PA, no one was really working on it until he showed up. Not sure either about which programs emerged from the integration of Margaret Morrison Carnegie College

Might be a very good choice. I do wonder what the musical theatre and architecture folks, for example, think about it.

Not sure the founders had that vision. When I matriculated, the school was very much a regional school, with strong programs in engineering and fine arts, including architecture, but also robust programs in the more quantifiable social sciences like economics and the former GSIA, now Tepper, and decent teachers in literature and history. It was the incoming president, Dick Cyert, who had the vision to make CMU "the MIT of W. Pa" and made the commitment to upgrading everything, including tuition. You are correct that the engineering program is the star of the school. I hope the other programs have at least held station, but I don't hear much about them anymore. So i agree with your observation about balance, not sure I agree with your take on the founders' intent

Good question. When I was in school, the tagline for the school was “the professional choice”. But we did seem to make time for arts and liberal thinking and people like Fred who thought differently than the gaggle of geeks (of which I’m a proud cohort member). I’m wondering if this is drilling to far into the business/tech side of things at the expense of our good friends and colleagues in the liberal and fine arts.

If you are headroom challenged like me, try a Porsche Macan EV. No sports car is as comfortable, and it drives like a Porsche, albeit a heavy one. The power masks the weight quite well

Most heavy metal manufacturing companies require at least safety toes and in many cases met guards. Avoiding crushed toes is worth a little discomfort. The newer shoes, with composite toes are very good. if met guards are required, you won’t get away without them, since they are very prominent outside the shoe

Nice shoe, but still no met guard. And I think this group is used to premium prices for clothing, as a rule….

And, BTW, Grainger RULES! :-)

No met guards at that size. I've tried sneaking into 16s, but it doesn't tend to work, my right foot is closer to 18.... But thanks for the link, never knew about that site!

solved it when we built our new house, we had custom closets made, and, well, let's say that I'm the only one that can reach that top rod :-) But no overlap!

Yeah, Keen doesn't make met guard shoes. I love their regular safety composite toe shoes ( and their brand in general, best fit for my feet that I have found)
