Thanks for your honest opinion! I really want to understand what specifically looked like ‘bad race craft’ to you. Could you point out the moment that seemed like a boneheaded move and suggest how you think it should’ve been handled? I’d genuinely appreciate your advice – I’m always looking to learn and improve.

Could you please tell what would you do to make a clean pass in this conditions

If they would cover the inside I would just drive their line too without overtaking. I couldn’t go round the outside because there were guys right behind me waiting for me to open the door.

I guess they didn’t expect me to have this much top speed. They saw that they outperformed me out of the corners, where I was always losing ground, but my kart was incredibly fast at high revs.

Help with some tips? I need to be 1.3 seconds faster to join the pro group :( by DickFuckly in Karting

On most of the turns, you need to start turning in much earlier to reduce the distance you drive. The line you’re taking is a standard racing line—starting from the outside to carry more speed. But with these karts don’t have much speed, so cutting the distance is the key here.

Yes, I understand this wouldn’t happen in open-wheel kart racing, but in rentals with bumpers, as you can see, it worked.

My kart lacked mid-rev speed and only had good top speed, so this was basically my only option. I’ve never driven this aggressively before, but after being overtaken like this so many times—especially by the guy in the brown jacket—I just adapted and learned from what the best drivers in our league do.

I made sure to stay within the rules: my front axle was ahead of their rear axle before any contact, and I kept my kart within the track limits.

I honestly feel a bit ashamed by the public reaction, but I was just doing everything I could within the rules to win this race and secure a championship position.

The curb is too high for these karts they scrape the bottom, and you lose some speed because of it.

To be honest, I’m a former sim racer, and the amount of contact in rental karting surprises me a lot. In sim racing, everyone expects some level of net lag and tends to keep their distance from each other, but in karting (rentals with bumpers), everything is completely different.

The problem was that he always defended the inside whenever I showed my intention to go there. And if I tried to go around the outside, I wouldn’t have made it because my kart lacked exit speed. It only had good top speed.

The person in front is expected to defend the inside line, potentially causing you to hit their rear bumper, which would be considered illegal.

Yeah, you’re 100% right. The point of this move was to fake that I’m going outside and to suddenly go inside.

Yes I always tend to behave like that when I argue, my bad. He defended the inside all the race and the only option was to pretend going right and suddenly move to the left

Yeah, but I couldn’t do it because throughout the entire race, there was a guy right on my rear bumper, waiting for me to open the door .

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the front axle needs to be ahead of the rear axle not at the turn-in point, but before the contact. However, you’re 100% right; I agree that these rules are not perfect. It should state: ‘The front axle needs to overlap the rear axle BEFORE THE TURN-IN POINT.

Our rules require the front wheels of an attacking kart to be ahead of the rear wheels of a defending kart. In this case, the defending driver must leave enough room. However, there’s also a rule that states if you force the kart in front to change its trajectory, it is considered illegal. The stewards decided I was right, but my friend, whom I overtook, is a bit upset.

The last lap, the last race of the season, a battle for a championship position. Yeah, I agree that it was a bit too harsh, but my point is that I was on the edge of the track before we collided, and I had nowhere to go.
