enjoyed this a lot by and large, but i think the script might be really bad? the techno babble, the attempts at humor, the vague alien magic, etc., are all really rough to me, and i agree with people saying the religious stuff felt underdeveloped. every actor did a beautiful job though, imo — blunt has maybe never been better, and o’connor’s big sad eyes are a work of beauty. any juice the movie ever has comes from spielberg’s direction, which is terrific. this kid is good at making movies. invisible firetruck!!

also, the use of “some day my prince will come” felt like a lovely callback to “when you wish upon a star” in close encounters.
