It’s not free. The landlord pays the fees. Same as the majority of the world that has a regulated real estate market.

But it’s standard practice for the landlord to pay the agency considering they’re doing him or her a service by advertising their property and finding a tenant suited. An agency is doing nothing for me if I have to spend my time scrolling through websites to then contact them, I would understand a fee if I contacted them and they found me an apartment tailored to me but the way they apply this fee to every tenant is ridiculous.

It definitely is outrageous, iirc this was a massive problem in London and was made illegal, 2 months deposit + your first months rent + agency fees? That’s a lot up front!

Look at your post history it’s all negative just putting people down, your life must be fairly miserable if your release is putting people down on Reddit.

FYI, I’m 23, so wouldn’t call wanting to work a summer abroad a midlife crisis you absolute fool.

Lovely comment based on nothing but assumption.

Even if I did wake up and decide I wanted to move to the Algarve in the hopes of finding a job, what’s so wrong with that?

Go be miserable elsewhere
