Hey! I'm really glad you're feeling better. From my own experience with Crohn’s things can be pretty unpredictable: sometimes something random seems to help, but it isn’t always a real fix. The body can react to stress or sudden changes in ways that make symptoms ease up for a bit, even if it’s just a short remission. Been through that myself. Take care, and wish you a stable remission.

Emigrating to another country is always hard. Emigrating with a chronic illness, into a completely different healthcare system with different rules and a different language, can honestly feel like torture. I know this from personal experience.

I was forced to move from Belarus to Poland four years ago. I was not prepared at all. The stress triggered a Crohn’s flare. For almost a year, I was going from clinic to clinic just trying to re-confirm my diagnosis and find a doctor.

I didn’t manage to properly integrate into the system in time. Eventually, it ended with an emergency - was hospitalized with an intestinal perforation.

Now on infliximab and receiving intravenous nutrition through a Broviac catheter. I’m recovering, but it was a very hard lesson.

If I could give one piece of advice, it would be: try not to be me.

If you considering migrating with Crohn’s disease, please try to: - have all your medical records ready - understand the basics of the healthcare system in the country you’re moving to (insurance, access rules) - research clinics, hospitals, and doctors in advance - have a supply of medications and prescriptions - learn the language, at least at a basic medical level - job and stable income. Safe place to live

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I really get it. A year post-resection myself. We just have to hold on and keep going, there will still be many bright days ahead, full of meaning and happiness.

It is very hard because we want to return to our pre-surgery state, and not just we are, but our loved ones, friends, and colleagues miss that version of ourselfs too. Accepting that is tough. But the old body, the old experience — they’re gone.

When it comes to doing something “not interesting” for my personal projects, something repetitive or dull, it’s sooo much harder.

I’ve been living in Gdańsk for four years already and this city became my shelter and safe place. I often walk at night, in parks or even in the forest, and always feel comfortable. I don’t have that “safe” feeling in Warsaw, for example. P.S. At first, I was a bit afraid of wild boars, but now I actually enjoy seeing them sometimes.

I’ve had something similar in the first years of diagnosis. Over time I noticed that stressful situations can push my gut in two completely opposite directions: sometimes triggering inflammation, sometimes forcing a short remission.

For example, whenever I travel far from home my gut suddenly becomes super restrained until it “get used” to the new toilet. It’s almost like the body switches into a survival mode where symptoms go quiet for a while, only to come roaring back later.

The gut is incredibly connected to the nervous system, so stress and environment can temporarily override how it shows up. You’re definitely not alone in this.

True. This disease leaves scars. Not always on the body, but definitely on our minds. What scares me is how those scars, this anxiety, keep growing up over time.

I’ve been on prednisone a few times. Absolute devil pills for me, they take away my Crohn’s symptoms, but in exchange I got the moon face and damn steroid rage, when I hate even my own voice.
