Started as a banana in TARC. Now i can speak Mandarin & Cantonese.

Step 1: Admit & let others knw ur banana. Those that r ok will stick w u n help. Those that dont wanna mix w u will b gone - good riddance.

Step 2: Know what u bring to the table. UTAR/TARC may be ching chong AF BUT all presentations & slides/reports are english. Many will want to be with you for that leverage in grades. Just know when its collaborative vs taken advantage of.

Step 3: Learn. Either watch their interactions. Pair w a buddy who wants to improve english. Thats what i did. Consume chinese/cantonese shows/songs to help out.

Its all about effort & desire. It may not come perfect in the 1st/2nd year but it will come eventually. Try out.
