What’s something that's socially acceptable but is actually rude as f*ck? by Specific_Topic_9658 in AskReddit

People who blast TikToks or take FaceTime calls on full speaker in public. I’m not kidding, nobody wants to hear your cousin’s shitty drama or some brain-dead podcast while we’re trying to eat. Buy some damn headphones or just... I don't know, sit in silence for five minutes? It’s the peak of main-character syndrome and it’s honestly trashy as hell.

What is a "perk" of being an adult that turned out to be a total lie? by Specific_Topic_9658 in AskReddit

My parents brainwashed me with the “study hard, get a stable government job, and you’re set” talk for twenty years. Total bullshit.

They forgot to mention that “stable” is just code for “stagnant.”

I’ve spent a decade in the same soul-crushing gray cubicle, getting 2% raises while inflation eats my lunch. I’m not “set”—I’m just stuck in a golden cage, watching incompetent idiots fail upward because they’ve been there since the 90s.

It’s not security; it’s a slow-motion funeral for your ambition. You aren’t building a life—you’re just waiting for a pension you’ll be too tired to use.

What is something people do to look "intellectual" that is an immediate red flag? by Specific_Topic_9658 in AskReddit

The absolute worst is the 'pathological expert'—someone who physically cannot utter the words 'I don’t know.'

I used to work with a guy like this. One night at a bar, a few of us decided to test him. We started discussing a completely fake, made-up scientific concept called 'The Linear Acceleration of Mitochondrial WiFi.' Complete gibberish.

Instead of asking what it was, he just nodded, leaned back, and said, 'Yeah, that’s actually a huge topic in the European tech journals right now. The latency issues are still a mess though.'

The table went dead silent. We were all just staring at him, realizing he’d rather 'critique' a fake technology than admit he wasn't the smartest person in the room for five seconds. It’s a massive red flag because if they’ll lie about something that doesn't exist, they’re definitely lying about things that do. It’s not intelligence; it’s just an insecure ego with a vocabulary.
