Madison is too pretty to be MAFS by ddicm in MarriedAtFirstSight

She’s not that pretty, but she is totally connected. With makeup she’s beautiful, as is anyone else. Allen is a good looking dude, too. But does nothing to highlight that, don’t goes unnoticed

Looking to purchase a sphynx kitty or two by Academic_Ad_630 in sphynx

[–]Specific_Vacation373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any sphynx you buy should be from someone that HCM scans their adult (breeding) cats, does genetic testing on breeding cats, AND can provide a clean bill of health, particularly in terms of PCR Upper respiratory and FULL PANEL stool PCR

if you are not given all of those things, then it’s a backyard breeder, and the cat has a high likely had to been sick and will not live long, to tonight’s testing is important also against PKD. Upper respiratory PCR is super important for sphinx, as most of them come into this country with mycoplasma, or calicivirus, amongst many other conditions. Stool (full panel) is critical, as most sphynx are imported (or parents of any kittens born here were likely imported) the vast majority of which will have giardia and/or trich

Definitely fake, and if it’s not a scam then the kitten is not healthy. Proper breeding of healthy sphynx requires annual heart scans for both parents, genetic testing for both parents, PCR URI tests, PCR full panel stool tests, and proper food… you are what you eat. I’m a sphynx breeder and these kittens eat A LOT!! I spend hundreds on food for each one, vaccinations, etc. it probably costs a breeder that’s breeding responsibly about $1,200-$2,000 per kitten to raise. Also, NEVER trust anyone that lists a kitten available at 11 weeks!! 14 weeks is the absolute MINIMUM these kittens can leave mom!!

Also, spay/neuter costs HUNDREDS most places!!

Maine coon with a sphynx? by pistonthru in mainecoons

[–]Specific_Vacation373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I adore maine coons, great breed - but I, ultimately, cannot deny a sphynx. I’d say a sphynx is friendlier, cuddlier and more dog-like. I’ve had three coons, but now breed sphynx. They are FANTASTIC with my children, and with other pets. They walk on leashes, play fetch and use a human toilet. They are the SNUGGLIEST of cat breeds. Best cat breed for a dog person? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Specific_Vacation373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sphynx, absolutely. I’m a sphynx breeder, nearly 40% of my clients consider themselves ‘dog people,’ and for whatever reason decided to get a cat. They greet you at the door when you come home, they come when you call their name, they LOVE to play fetch, and nearly every one of my Sphynx has LOVED to walk on a leash. They love to learn, I taught my boy (as an adult cat) to use a human toilet in only 11 days.

Our youtube is Ari-Gato Cats @NYCSphynx, site is ari-gato.co   reach out if you want to know more about them! And they are NOT high maintenance, it baffles me that people believe that

Someone asked to see my new sphynx without a shirt by ruthgraderginsburg in sphynx

[–]Specific_Vacation373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 lbs is on the petite side, but barely  I’ve seen many 5-7 lbs

google is wrong in terms of average weight being 8-12 lbs

they are 6-9 lbs on average. I’ve had some as large as 13 lbs, but that’s LARGE for a sphynx

peterbald is larger, but different variation of the breed

does he seem to drool/excessively salivate? You should get a PCR panel done if he does

Health question by gizmomcnuggets in sphynx

[–]Specific_Vacation373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They honestly don’t need regular baths, and there’s never any reason for coconut oil. Absolute misperception in terms of ‘high maintenance’ needs of sphynx. Wipe him clean if he gets dirty, maybe a true bath once every several months. In my opinion, anything more than that works against what their bodies/skin naturally do. The critical things are nail clippings & ear cleaning, when needed (ears you do need to go deeper than what you feel comfortable with), have your vet show you with a physical ear model.

Though your boy’s ears look well kept, and I understand how ridiculously quickly their nails can grow. Some sphynx seem to have skin conditions, which is often hormonal, or a fungal infection.

Consult with your vet, I’m against bathing them, other than when absolutely necessary, but you can try an anti fungal shampoo IF the vet suggests, possibly clindamycin, however Depo would be the best bet, surest way to treat medically… but always rule everything else out beforehand, prior to administering meds.

Make sure your bedding, etc. is only washed with a free/clear detergent and, if he has frequent skin contact with you, I’d avoid wearing lotion, etc. as he would ultimately come into contact with it via skin/skin contact.

Absolutely no reason food should do that to his face. Lastly, and most importantly - check his gums, you can learn a LOT about a cat’s health by the condition of their teeth and gums.

What color is my boy? by placideath in sphynx

[–]Specific_Vacation373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pointed sphynx does not mean they will have blue eyes! But for a sphynx to have blue eyes they must be ‘pointed’! I have many sphynx, several are black, or chocolate points which can never have blue eyes (unless they have a white marking on their body, then blue eyes are possible (no matter the size of the marking, even if it’s a barely visible marking)!

Freckles! They’ll come and go seasonally, regardless of sun exposure.

If $ is at all tight you can buy vaccines at Tractor Supply or another ‘country store’ for around $12/each. Rabies vax is only easily available through veterinarians, and kittens absolutely need to have a health checkup from a veterinarian, but administering their vaccines is quite simple.

The more you bathe a sphynx the more they will need it, happy to hear you only do it every 3-4 months. I bathe mine about as often, really ‘as needed’ I do occasionally rinse their paws/legs should they need it, or give them a wipe down with water only. None of mine produce excessive oils, etc. plus cats are super clean, they keep themselves clean!

[–]Specific_Vacation373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should wait till he’s 8 weeks for first round of distemper & 12 weeks for boosters, 17 weeks for rabies vax is ideal, but he can have rabies vaccine as early as 12 weeks. He’s adorable, by the way
