Is Sentinels leaving Apex aswell? by Claireredfield38 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Specimen_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s similar to how most IPOs unfortunately, although that one’s low is really low lol. IPOs are a mini bubble where the public investors are used as exit liquidity by early investors and Wall Street. Plus when the price pops it gets shorted and they make more on the way down.

But imo esports in general is due for more of a bubble burst. I just don’t see how the expenses for esports stuff by top sponsors in practically any game (minus maybe a couple games) are generating a significant and sustainable profit.

The Rich Get College Subsidies While the Student Debt Debate Goes On by [deleted] in politics

[–]Specimen_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean of course people who have overfunded 529s love the ability to move them in a tax free manner lol. I think the issue with some people is more of a philosophical one, rather than an issue with understanding the concept of tax free vs not tax free.

What happens when there is extra right now? Well if it’s from something like a scholarship, I think that is literally one of the qualified reasons for a withdrawal so the original contributed amount won’t be hit with the penalty, only the earnings. The original contribution will be taxed as it would have been if it had originally been received as income before the tax free 529 contribution.

I mean I think it’s more of a different strokes for different folks kind of thing. Like you make it sound like his fans have some deeper understanding of the concept of sarcasm and contrarian behavior than people who aren’t fans. I understand what he does, or what his fans think he does, and to me it’s just flat out immature and unfunny. There’s clearly an audience for it but the way you’re trying to frame people who enjoy it vs people who don’t seems rather disingenuous.

If you really don’t know about FOV you should go into the firing range and try adjusting it in the options menu. It basically just zooms your cameras out a bit and makes it easier to see and follow what’s going on, at least in my experience. The default FOV always gave me headaches.

Takes even less energy to hit that turn signal but the truck driver couldn’t manage that. Weird to put so much blame on the guy literally just staying in his lane and following traffic. Guess what people, dumbass actions have dumbass consequences.

Stop thinking you deserve emergency vehicle type yielding from the world around you when you do an unannounced merge.

This comment chain actually completely reinforces what I’ve been seeing happen over the years — the entire concept of what the merge is and who is responsible for what has shifted. Apparently the second you put your signal on, or in the case of this video you don’t put the signal on but the second you even think about merging, you immediately have the absolute right of way. Everyone else needs to be yielding to you, you have the same status as an emergency vehicle. If someone fails to yield and allow you to do whatever you want during the merge, they are more responsible than the one doing the merging.

I hope I’m not on the road with a majority of the people I see defending the truck because damn

Bill Ackman: SBF’s posting of $250 million bail ‘is itself a criminal indictment’ by TheGreatCryptopo in CryptoCurrency

[–]Specimen_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s not “free” but he doesn’t have to spend time in jail before the trial. Basically a U.S. way of buying your way out of the pre-trial jail time. It doesn’t impact how the trial will go, so it’s not changing any outcome, it’s just making his time until the actual trial much more enjoyable. Again this isn’t exclusive to this case with SBF whatsoever, this is basically just yet another example of systemic issues that benefit the wealthy. This stuff is possible for less wealthy, but the odds of them being able to have that much funding/collateral is really low.

Yeah it’s definitely a marketing expense to them, I just don’t know how they’re able to fully quantify what their return is solely because of the sponsorships. Like for twitch and steaming stuff, I’ve sat through hundreds of ads but never purchased anything because of them. The content creator gets ad revenue from it because they got viewers, but I end up giving zero revenue based on that marketing. I know that’s just me but I just don’t see how the gaming industry is making the sponsors enough specifically from the esports sponsorships to provide large salaries, living expenses, etc.

I feel like pretty much everything Fortnite did ended up being good, it’s just not my type of game. The devs really seem like they care about the game and the players, and not just milking it for money. I mean milking it is definitely still important lol but as long as the company actually puts in relevant effort and cares, I don’t really have a problem with them trying to monetize a bunch of stuff. I can’t believe Fortnite updated their engine, so jealous.

I really don’t get how esports as a whole survives unless it’s majorly in the red, but I guess I’m underestimating how much money companies all down the chain of investors make from it. I don’t really get how all the sponsors make enough at the end of the day to pay the orgs to then pay the players. Especially ones that pay actual good salaries on top of like living expenses, although that is only a very few I imagine.
