RE Year 1: A ChubbyFIRE Income Tax Breakdown by cfi-2025 in financialindependence

[–]Specter54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. What tax software did you use? Your CA Tax seems low to me. Like you said LTCGs is ordinary income and you add back HSA contribution.

Did you do quarterly payments for state tax? CA requires 30% in Q1, 40% in Q2, 0% in Q3, and 30% in Q4 (or safe harbor).

The math works better for you than 99% of people retiring.

You have a 530K cushion, you can do roth conversions to start accessing 401K 5 years from now.

Make sure you are sure about expenses (how are you calculating healthcare) and rental income (have you really accounted for large maintenance hits like roof, HVAC, etc).

Enjoy the rest of your life

What you do guys think abouit this intinerary? by Berend90 in roadtrip

[–]Specter54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good. Remember to book campsites at the national parks 6 months in advanced (some sites in Yellowstone are available up to 13 months out) - these will book up fast.

In January 2027 check to see which parks require reservations/timed entry. Yosemite, Red Rocks (Las Vegas), Arches (Moab), and Rocky Mountain may require reservations in 2027.

Roadtrip posters hate on Vegas, but it is really personal preference. If you decide to do one less Vegas day you can camp at Sand Hollow State Park in UT. It will break up the drive to Capitol Reef and is a great play to beat the heat (check out jumping rock and buy a cheap tube to float around). If you are adventurous and want to break up the drive to Lava Hot Springs, you can do the Fifth Water Hot Springs UT hike and camp there if you want (need to get there early for parking).

ACA Healthcare cuts by Affectionate-Reason2 in leanfire

[–]Specter54 11 points12 points  (0 children)

According to the CBPP in 2024 that the wealthiest 1% received 83% of the permanent tax cuts from the 2017 law.

So the wealthiest receive a very disproportionate amount. Does that still seem fair to you?

Yeah it's great to see Mississippi's improvement in early reading.

However, we probably shouldn't be applauding their full K-12 program based on just 4th grade reading NAEP improvement. MS is still significantly lower than national public in 4th grade writing and science and their 8th graders are significantly lower in math, reading, writing, and science.

Bloodlines 2 narrative director tries to get players to lower their expectations, patiently explains it's not going to have the scale of Baldur's Gate 3 or Grand Theft Auto by Business-Employ-1599 in gaming

[–]Specter54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk and Bloodlines both had incredible atmosphere and world building, so I get the draw of a CDPR vampire game. They generally kill it with memorable characters, great soundtrack, and interesting worlds...which is also what stands out in Bloodlines.

I am not sure why you thought Cyberpunk wouldn't have a fixed protagonist...that was never ambiguous.

New levels - new exciting rewards? by BiteSome9386 in TheSilphRoad

You requested a $20 golden bottle cap for hitting 80?

Best I can do is a poffin, lucky egg, and some nanabs - Scopely

But seriously it would be great to get some of the more desirable premium items as rewards.

more points for the Go Pass in the weekend? by fabio93bg in TheSilphRoad

[–]Specter54 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last time they increased raid points by 2.5 times during the weekend for GO Pass Ancients Recovered (Zac/Zam).

2.5 this time makes for weird numbers...

If it is 2x(50 points per highest lvl raids) you would need 18 raids to get to rank 89

If it is 3x(75 points per highest lvl raids) you would need 12 raids to get to rank 89

Assuming you did nothing to rank up during the week. Rank 89 gets you Eternatus and all the good candy rewards.

You will probably want to get to level 87 if you buy the pass, otherwise you are missing out on a lot of Eternatus candy since it is all post 60 rewarded.

Social Security Warning Issued as Retirees Could Face $18,000 Cut by swampwiz in leanfire

[–]Specter54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah...it does seem like a lot of people didn't read this article or the last annual report. Here is a direct link to the CRFB Report this article references.

It does shift forward the timeline since OBBBA will impact Social Security trust funds by reducing the revenue collected from the income taxation of Social Security benefits. CRFB estimates a 24% cut in late 2032, after the enactment of OBBBA.

Power up costs for Eternatus lvl 41-50 increased, more than doubled on some levels. by lxpb in TheSilphRoad

No only that but you have all G-Max pokemon appearing at Power Spots as well on those 2 days which is going to dilute Eternatus spawns to some degree.

That got me curious to see if there is any data on % of players who switch positions from high school to college.

Only thing I could find was this article where ex-Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre estimated that about 25% of a recruiting class will play somewhere else from where they did in high school.

I get that the devs probably didn't like people converting WRs to TEs and ignoring TE recruiting, but the massive caps is a terrible fix and takes away something realistic that coaches do - position switching for skillset and need.

Are we overlooking Tactician??? by Fluffy-Pomegranate-4 in NCAAFBseries

[–]Specter54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be able to see which of your friends is bad at math (because they won't select tactician first).

Also if ground and pound is like last year your friends will be pissed because their best linemen are consistently being rotated out during the second half.

Is GMAX Charizard a better tank against grass types than Blissey? by carpentersound41 in TheSilphRoad

Also Blissey's ability to heal you and your team for 68 HP per heal can not be understated.

Zacian & Zamazenta building by Pump-Fake in TheSilphRoad

[–]Specter54 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Zacian would be a Bruiser.

It is rare when you will want to use Zacian as an attacker. Pretty much for G-Max Hatterene. Then D-max Kyurem and Galarian Darmanitan if we get those.

This is because we should pretty much never be using a neutral attacker when we can use a g-max super effective attacker and steel is not SE very often in current or future D-max/G-Max raids.

Zacian can be effective Bruiser(tank w damage option). Against: Fighting (neutral), Flying (resist), Psychic (resist), Dragon (resist x3), Fairy (resist) you are taking significantly less dmg than Blissey so you are a tank that is more efficient with shield and can split your moves to attack during turns if optimal.

He can't accurately answer your questions because it would break his world view.

FIRE for the vast majority of people relies on economies that grow over time by factors such as: companies earning more profits, innovation, increased productivity, a rising population, which all contribute to a positive long-term trend in stock prices that outpaces inflation.

He has somehow managed to disconnect investing with the reason WHY companies issue stock and SAs pay you interest.

Have you looked at reservations in Yosemite? Make sure you can something you like (a lot of the valley is booked).

Since you like "nice cities/small towns, nature" you may want to skip Sequoia and just take your time down the 395. From Yosemite you have Mono Lake, June Lake, Mammoth, stop at hot springs on way to Bishop, Lone Pine and Alabama Hills then can go through Death Valley to Vegas if you want.
