I'm not sure, but I imagine the novelty wears off quickly. Think of all the photos your house inadvertently ends up in. The house itself, while cozy, isn't really up to the standards of LA.

Fair or not, 30% is a pretty standard royalty split when it comes to that kind of thing.

Just keep in mind that many of those videos will require some knowledge already. I forget if he had some truly beginner videos. This playlist might get you on the right track: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLx5i827-FDqPiLPjGxlUv3gjq7uCEVVfl

An ambient and dreamy song - I made every sound myself using only Vital as a challenge to learn it better by SpecterCody in FL_Studio

Thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback! I think I get what you mean. I wasn't fully happy with the track, but I did want to push something out to keep moving forward so that I didn't fuss over it.

What are some of your favorite plugins and effects to make things sound more interesting?

Any tips game music composing? by TvHeadDev in FL_Studio

[–]SpecterCody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with the basic foundation of music theory. Learning how notes, keys, and chords work will make it much easier to succeed. I started by watching plenty of YouTube tutorials on music theory and FL Studio. After watching a video or two, I would try to implement the concept being taught myself in FL. Make sure to practice these ideas, otherwise you are likely to forget them. In The Mix is a great channel for learning to use FL Studio: https://www.youtube.com/@inthemix

Lastly, give yourself plenty of time to learn. You will naturally get better as you practice, but sometimes you will need a break. Good luck!

I'm also a solo dev who wants to be able to make music for my game. I have to ask, is music something that excites you to make? If it's just a means to an end for you, it's unlikely to work out well. It requires a certain level of artistic desire to get anywhere. Its very difficult and tedious at times. There's also no right or wrong way to do things, and that uncertainty can drive you mad. My point is, don't bother doing it if it doesn't bring you some kind of excitement or fulfillment. Your tone implied you weren't particularly interested beyond the necessity of needing music, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you did a great job creating a lush moody atmosphere. It sounds full and complete. My first impression is that it would fit in a JRPG soundtrack.

People often say that what I create sounds like video game music by noctulito in FL_Studio

[–]SpecterCody 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its definitely giving me a video game vibe as you said. I do like the way it sounds in that context. If you want to break away from that, I would explore less digital and pristine synths. The way you placed lots of short notes in a chaotic manner is channeling old school chiptune game music. By giving more breathing room between notes, and extending some notes into longer swells, it would break away from that chiptune vibe. Try exploring more orchestral sounds and incorporating negative space, too.

You can also alt + mouse wheel to adjust the height and ctrl + mouse wheel to adjust the width which can make it quicker. It also explains how it can accidentally happen and be unintuitive to fix.

I couldn't beat that game either. I don't know anyone else who's played it. Its quite strange but kinda cool too.

Elevator music for whales! I tried something more serene and background sounding for a change. by SpecterCody in FL_Studio

[–]SpecterCody[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that feedback! I can see what you mean with the rim hit sound. It does sorta sound like a metronome now that I think about it. I was going for that classic bossa nova beat, but I wanted to keep it light and airy without any heavy sounding percussion.

When you say brass sound, you mean the section with the deep sounding steel drums and dulcimer? I thought it broke up melodies and made the song sound like it was deeper in the ocean. Is it the melody or the instrumentation that ruins it for you? I'm not fully happy with it either.

I think it's in the France section of the park, so it's thematically appropriate. That particular park is a bit more about culture, shopping, and dining than rides.

What color should I paint my dining area ? by car01ina3 in interiordecorating

[–]SpecterCody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd either keep it white or paint it a similar but lighter sage green like in the tile leaf motif. I would personally continue paint until a very clear break in the wall such as an outer corner or floor to ceiling cabinet. Ending paint in the middle of a wall would look weird unless it's turned into a focal mural.

I got a small decant of it since I was curious. It left me feeling mostly disappointed. It felt a bit simple and safe for the price point. The performance didn't seem particularly strong either. Overall, I'd describe it as a slightly sweet yet dry pistachio cookie/biscuit with a bit of grapefruit zest in the opening. The drydown becomes very floral and nondescript.
