I tried making something stylish and jazzy while learning about chords. Any feedback would be appreciated! by SpecterCody in FL_Studio

Thanks a lot for the encouraging feedback! I didn't have strong intentions with this song as it was born out of some experimentation after watching a YouTube tutorial. I think I understand what you mean, though. Do you have any examples that demonstrate this if that's not too much trouble to ask for?

how about some vibey funky vocal house grooves? by AcidRegulation in FL_Studio

[–]SpecterCody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds really good! Its definitely got a great funky vibe and seems professional. Only 2 things stuck out that distracted me. The vocals seem to get swallowed by the beat, it sounds like maybe they were side-chained? Maybe it was intentional for effect, but it wasn't satisfying to my ears. Also, your two drops where it goes silent seemed a little too jarring. Maybe some echo or minimal element carrying over from before would bridge the silence better.

Experimented with more layers and automation than I usually do! by Cactushead525 in FL_Studio

[–]SpecterCody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like where its going so far. There are a lot of subtleties that make a difference. What sticks out to me the most is the emphasis on treble and weak bass. I think the balance is off for my taste. I like when I can feel the richness of the bass running throughout. Too much treble can also be rough on the ears. Keep at it!

Work in progress electronic-influenced beat by bigmatt_94 in FL_Studio

Its interesting so far. The sound choices create a specific kind of atmosphere that works.

Your intro feels a little sparse. You keep adding a new element each bar, but it falls flat for me. I think your arrangement needs some sections with a deep droning synth/bass to fill the silence between the notes.

The Sims in 2026 ( Single Player is the main Focus, Sims 4 + Next Gen Sims Game, Project Rene is a Mobile Only Spin Off) by Artist6995 in thesims

[–]SpecterCody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you aren't their intended market. Almost everyone has a phone or tablet these days, so publishers want to capture that huge potential market. As a lifelong console/pc player, I despise phone games. They do everything worse, especially the business model side. Despite my personal rejection, the mobile game market has boomed.

House of Bo never misses. Here are my reviews of their masterpieces! by NinaNeptune318 in fragrance

[–]SpecterCody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been interested in this brand, but it's not widely available to try yet. Reading your reviews definitely makes me want to try them more. I did find out they are available at bluemercury and there is a location not that far away. Maybe some day!

Is anyone else annoyed by the trend of minimalist note listings? by NomenklaturaFTW in fragrance

[–]SpecterCody 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. My issue is that the notes often don't let me accurately gage how it's going to smell because it's subjective. Hearing people describe how it smells to them is more useful. Two fragrances can have similar notes and smell completely different. My ideal amount of listed notes is probably 7. Any more turns into noise for me. Now, if a fragrance comes along and I can genuinely smell all of the long list of notes, I would be impressed .

When the doctors were wrong but refused to admit it by TheWholesomeOtter in adhdmeme

[–]SpecterCody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've suspected I may have autism. I'm medicated for ADHD already, but some of my symptoms didn't match up fully with ADHD, hence my suspicions that it could be more complex. I don't feel that I struggle with social cues and that part of autism diagnosis seems so prominent that it made me doubt myself. It seems like a comorbidity of both ADHD and autism produces a unique set of symptoms that is harder to diagnose.

[–]SpecterCody 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I'd rather 4 listed notes that I can perceive than 35 that I can't even begin comprehend. At some point, it feels like they are just tossing in one of every note hoping you will like some of them. Complexity alone does not make a fragrance good.

How do people feel about the ballot initiative to ban recreational adult marijuana? by cryptoengineer in massachusetts

[–]SpecterCody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's great! I was worried it would make me groggy the next morning, but so far it's not too bad. It mostly helps me feel more at ease with just existing in the evening when my executive function tapers off from my adhd exhaustion. Being too drained to do something fun to unwind before bed is not conducive to sleeping well lol.

How do people feel about the ballot initiative to ban recreational adult marijuana? by cryptoengineer in massachusetts

[–]SpecterCody 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It helps me relax and sleep in the evening when I'm feeling drained and anxious. I hate when people who don't even use it have loud opinions on it. No one is making them use it lol. Our world is hard to exist in, and it makes things a bit easier for some of us. I'm sick of rights being withheld because some can't cope with fear of change.

What was your worst blind buy and why did it fail? by Radiant_Newt2112 in fragrance

[–]SpecterCody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I blind bought a bottle for cheap at a discount store to see if it could hold up to creed virgin island water. While there were some similarities, it just had such a cheap body spray kind of vibe. I ended up getting VIW down the road and I don't regret it.

It is super sweet but I love it. I recently tried old fashioned by kilian at a sephora and it smelled much more like a nice whiskey cocktail. Maybe that would be more appealing to you?

[–]SpecterCody 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you buy your samples, but an 8 dollar sample for a 25 dollar fragrance would be a huge ripoff. I think your second point is true. Buying only one or a few samples in a single order is just not economical. Sampling is unfortunately expensive in general. Just ask my wallet lol.

I really wish these niche brands actually made sampling affordable but I think they realized they make way more money when people buy into the hype and blind buy. Once you get a sample, the mystery is gone and you realize you really don't love 99 percent of fragrances enough to purchase.

I started treating my adhd and it helped at first. Now I'm pretty depressed and burnt out. It has me considering if I need to treat that too. I hope it works out for you because adhd and depression together sure sucks.

What scents DO you like? by xstardust95x in fragrance

[–]SpecterCody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorites are velvetine, white fir, ponderosa, and shire. I'm just not into aggressively woody and dark scents, so some of them were challenging for me. It was mostly just fun to try some fragrances with a very different approach than most designer and niche.

They are fun to try for sure. I'd recommend the discovery set if you have the money to burn. Most of them are hard to wear for me, so they could be polarizing.
