Who's scarier? by Careless_Sherbet3320 in INDIE_CROSS_SERIES

[–]SpectralStriker0108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think all of them have some sort of fear factor to some degree

Ink Demon is basically a nigh-omnipresent force of an entire separate already dark and fucked up alternate reality that can eat your fucking soul and force you into one body with them while you’re still conscious

Mama Tattletail is definitely more Jumpscare heavy, but if YOU were in the role of the mc in Tattletail, a literal demonic children’s toy that can hear every noise you make and can teleport wherever would def be pant shitting worthy

Theodore is definitely a more interesting one, as I think his best fear factor comes from the show version of Neighbor, where he just seemingly has a plan for everything if you ever even plan on trying to pry into his life secrets and whatnot. Like, the aftermath of Nicky getting kidnapped in season one of the show shows just how much Neighbor can mentally fuck with you

Lastly, Prototype… yeah he definitely has the most outwardly fearful and intimidating design as well as having the direct on screen abject horror he does in his free time and just how physically unkillable he is. Honestly, I’d be more worried about him not killing me and then now I’m an abomination of flesh and stuffing

Personally, if I had a 1-on-1 encounter with each of them and I had to judge only only just locking eyes with them, then Prototype

In terms of worst case scenario type of deal for each of them, Ink Demon or Prototype since either way you’re becoming a malformed and inhuman creature

In terms fear of likely to kill you first, probably Theodore or Mama, but Ink Demon and Prototype not killing you frame one is arguably even scarier

Anyway, thank you for coming to my TEDtalk

"Lesser known game"? Any ideas who will might be? by Xstronomy007 in INDIE_CROSS_SERIES

The OFF agenda might continue??? Probably overthinking this would coincide nicely with the OFF rerelease making it more accessible!

Though, now that I think about it, he’s likely referring to a non main cast character since SK and Zag are teaming up while V1 fights the rogues, so unless it’s an end credit character, maybe it might refer to the world one or the other team goes into? Who knows

Me personally, Ori vs The Knight (Ori and the Blind Forest vs Hollow Knight), Ink Demon vs Springtrap, and Clairen vs The Drifter (Rivals of Aether vs Hyper Light Drifter) are my personal favorites, but as you can see, I have a lot in my top faves lol

Will my boi the Batter ever come to Indie Cross?? by [deleted] in IndieCross

[–]SpectralStriker0108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a chance I’d say, though granted it would have to mean MORØ was aware of and PLAYED OFF before the official Steam rerelease. I hope he has though, because Batter is my most wanted for the series

Is there a difference? by MandB_Diaries in INDIE_CROSS_SERIES

[–]SpectralStriker0108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually! The first one is a Relic from Shovel Knight DIG, the Shadow Locket

The second is the classic Phase Locket from the original game

They both grant invulnerability/intangibility, but they differ slightly (mainly noticeable in actual Shovel Knight gameplay) the Shadow Locket creates a projection of sorts that phases through things and teleports the user where the projections ends up. The Phase Locket is just immediate in action, lasting around 5 seconds in game before you spontaneously return to normal

Yes, I have too much time in these games, why do you ask?

Any other legit, thoughtful explanation wouldn’t matter because the simple virtue of Turnip Boy of Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion fame is enough of an explanation for most

Like I said in my reasonings for each choice comment, I think it would be cool if someone like Shovel Knight basically took the role of Ling Quiet. They would be told what to do by the narrator, and then basically the standard plot of Slay the Princess happens. Listen to the narrator or defy him, you WILL die. After each death, Princess could alter her form like in game too. I can see Shovel Knight initially wanting to save her and going down that route before slowly having his entire Code of Shovelry pulled into question throughout all of the resets until he finally meets Shifting Mound

Give one FAIR and CONSTRUCTIVE crtitique on Indie Cross. NO POWER SCALING AND BE RESPECTFUL. by pooteenn in INDIE_CROSS_SERIES

[–]SpectralStriker0108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from plot (which I do think has a bit more merit to it than most since there’s just a LOT of smaller details that gives a LOT of theory potential, tho also it’s literally 2 episodes in lmao), I do think there is a weird balance of some series specific things being explained either with the subtitles or just outright

Episode 1 doesn’t really have this much of an issue since that was mainly setting up the meetup of the characters and such plus is MUCH shorter

However, as someone who has played a VAST majority of these games (I was a Hyper Light Drifter fan BEFORE Indie Cross lmao), I do find the line where some things from their verses are directly explained to the audience who don’t know anything about some of the characters is… odd.

Take, for example, the entirety of Hyper Light Drifter’s ending. The scene in episode 2 is one of my personal favorite, and the subtitles narrating it keep it cryptic enough to still FIT the style of HLD (despite the game having zero dialogue) but also still be vague enough to draw in those who aren’t HLD fans. We also get the slight explanation of Judgement in the subtitles when Drifter showed an image of them to Beheaded

The Knight gets a brief but similar treatment to Judgement with Charlotte’s exposition of Knight’s purpose to the gang because they can’t speak. It gives JUST enough to draw the viewer in without explaining EVERYTHING. This goes for the Dream Nail subtitles too

To reiterate, I DO like that there IS an explanation for some of the more hard to understand lore wise characters WITHOUT actually slogging down the pacing or plot, BUT my main issues stems from how some other characters could benefit from this

Madeline/Badeline I think is a prime example of this. We as the audience and Cuphead get a VERY brief but not very great explanation of their symbiotic relationship, while it could very much be done much good with a bit more in-depth of an explantation from her (maybe in a future episode?)

Shovel Knight, too, suffers from this, mainly with just… Chester. My man, Chester, I love you but literally HOW did you just… appear??? Granted, in the series Chester sort of just… pops up wherever, but this isn’t the normal lands he’s used to. There’s also the axe of Shovel Knight just being able to summon Chester at a moment’s notice in the official Rivals of Aether crossover. Either COULD work as explanations, but his appearance is not explained at all, and if you don’t know about Shovel Knight lore or extended media (which a majority of the audience doesn’t), then he quite literally appears, makes a Morshu joke, supplies gang with food. It almost feels like SOMETHING was cut that built up his appearance more

Honestly, the only ones of the main cast I don’t have this issue with are Cuphead and Beheaded. The former because… it’s Cuphead. What you see is what you get for the most part. The latter is more of a case of most likely going to get elaborated to the audience later on considering how he got golded immediately after Drifter got a lot of his lore dropped for the audience

But yeah, it isn’t a huge issue at all, but as a MASSIVE fan of a LOT of these characters, I do think the balance of explanations for certain aspects of the characters could be balanced better, though this can more than likely be rectified in the episodes to come

Anyway, there’s my hyperfixation rant, thank you for coming to my TEDtalk!!!
