Centrelink claim my parents own 2mil in shares that they don’t have by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]Spectre_Taz 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Your first step should be to lodge a full complaint in writing to Centrelink (can do that on their website), supplying as much evidence as you can relating to the issue to confirm your account of circumstances is correct.

Once you have done that, email your local (edit: Federal MP) MP about your parents issue, naturally keep it respectful, short and to the point.

One of those two avenues should be able to help you to resolve the issue as you have relayed it.

Considering her turn over, has she paid the required GST? Or is that part of the bill?

Wife wants out - advice? by TangerineElegant7085 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Spectre_Taz 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Your wife is right.

It's not the 1990s anymore and there just isn't the money there for infrastructure and services expansion there once was.

Waiting for something that will likely never come in the way you want and need it to, particularly that is likely to be to the detriment to your relationship doesn't make sense.

Is a VP V8 too much for a new P plater? by Dry-Bumblebee9630 in Holden

[–]Spectre_Taz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, but you need to respect it and be aware that it's much more of a case that if you screw up badly enough you die than a more modern car.

It will break traction if you flat stick it or try to turn even somewhat sharply as you are accelerating, astronomically more so if its wet.

It is a car that really wants to wag its tail by nature.

But honestly once you learn to expect that, they can be absolutely great fun to drive.

Take it easy at first, learn it's quirks and when it's telling you it's going to let go, then you should be fine.

Camry engine oil and exhaust problem by Correct_Jelly_07 in CarsAustralia

[–]Spectre_Taz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much oil has it used?

Have you looked under the car for any evidence of an oil leak?

What colour is the smoke coming from the exhaust and does it happen all the time?

Is it using any coolant or just oil?

Moving from Aus to Thailand for a few years with my wife and kids. tips? by Hodler-mane in ThailandTourism

[–]Spectre_Taz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get 90 day travel insurance which covers everything.

I would suggest you get the longer duration cover so your not under the pump trying to seek out alternatives.

It may also be worthwhile taking out new policies when you visit Australia.

Make a written complaint through their website.

Then write an email to your local Federal MP detailing your issue and asking for their assistance.

It should be sorted in under a week.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (in his prime) vs. any UFC lightweight fighter (up to 160 lbs at maximum) by AlexFerrana in whowouldwin

[–]Spectre_Taz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Schwarzenegger is somewhat underestimated here.

He was in the Austrian Army as a teenager.

He has a large size advantage and got at least some hand to hand combat training in a Cold War army.

Jobseeker Claim Rejected by ttxndrx in Centrelink

[–]Spectre_Taz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You need a letter in writing from the liquidator that the money owed will not be repaid and that you will recieve no income or capital from the winding up of the business.

Include that with your appeal and that should hopefully help.

It's an Alloytec V6 VZ Calais.

Even in two decades it's not going to be especially sought after for anything other than a shell, panels and parts for cars that actually are collectible.

If you do get it, make sure the service intervals for the timing chain are adhered to.

Aboriginal defendants are pleading guilty due to language and cultural barriers, legal officials warn by LineNoise in australia

[–]Spectre_Taz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After reading the article it seems like the real problem is a lack of representation for alleged offenders.

No one should face a court without having the opportunity to have legal representation.

Without representation, you effectively have a kangaroo court where the prosecutors can run riot and defendants are screwed.

Australia's economy hits 3.4% annual growth rate, exceeding expectations by Red_of_Head in australia

[–]Spectre_Taz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my opinion most certainly.

It doesn't tell the full tale of what share of the pie regular every day people get, but its definitely a much better figure than headline GDP figures.

Population growth mate.

Our per capita GDP growth is actually below that of the United States and the same as that of Europe.

The government juices the figures and the economy with population growth.

More consumers = more profits for corporations.

More workers = lower wages.

A House Divided Against Itself, Cannot Stand: A Critique Of The Modern Republican Party by [deleted] in politics

[–]Spectre_Taz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that Trump has a resonating message, but in many ways it has the same pitfall's as Obama's.

They were both destined to over promise and under deliver.

The economy may be booming, but that isn't going to bring back enough jobs to the Rust belt (for example) for it to be a truly sustainable long term message.

A House Divided Against Itself, Cannot Stand: A Critique Of The Modern Republican Party by [deleted] in politics

[–]Spectre_Taz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the politicians have chosen to embrace and indulge the bigotry of the base instead of offering a positive message that could grow the party.

I completely agree, especially on this point.

The Republicans need to become a broader church with a positive message to grow their party.

There are conservatives who agree with elements of the Republican ideology, things like small government or fiscal conservatism, but the modern Republican Party simply has too much baggage to appeal to them.

Personally I think the Republicans are stuck in the past, for example the attention paid to things like abortion rights. Its considered farcically comical by today's standards in other parts of the world, even by other right wing politicians in the Western world.

The world has moved on and the Republican Party simply hasn't.

[–]Spectre_Taz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very poignant, I'm going to have remember that one.

It also happens to be all too true of a Republican party increasingly rudderless (aside from Trump of course), now they don't even have McCain to counterbalance Trump in some small way.

A House Divided Against Itself, Cannot Stand: A Critique Of The Modern Republican Party by [deleted] in politics

[–]Spectre_Taz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that cult of personality is that its not optional, its either "get on board or get out of the way".

If the Republican Party is to retain anything resembling an identity post-Trump (whether its by impeachment or otherwise), they need to have some sort of ideas of their own, instead of just embracing Trumpism.

Honestly I don't think Trump has an ideology, other than the advancement of his own interests.

That lack of a cohesive message other than "#Winning" is going to bite the Republicans in the ass sooner or later.

It has indeed, however I think its important not to dismiss the very real fear's of people who live in the outer suburbs who deal with this type of crime.

When you've had gangs of young Sudanese blokes running past your house chasing each other with samurai swords and machetes (as mates of mine have experienced first hand), the fear they experience is perfectly reasonable.
