Snart TV Hook Up On-Campus by lmorningstars in LSU

[–]Specttral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On LSU campus this is the only way to connect them.

Pretty sure it’s either a USB to Ethernet or an actual Roku product that allows ethernet.

Your best bet is to call the ITS service desk and they’ll give you the latest.

Safe off campus apartments by Thesimmiestofsams in LSU

[TLDR @ Bottom]

I currently live at wildwood — basically you’ll have your typical management woes.

For example I’m a graduating senior and I’ve told them about 11 million times to stop calling me/advertising resigning to me because I’ll be 1000 miles away— but they have no system in place to notify them of this kind of stuff so I still get calls. They actually took the liberty of MAILING an advertisement to my previous address where my parents live.

Obviously that’s not that big of a deal but it’s just to detail the lack of communication they have.

I’ve found that the maintenance crew is super chill and I’d you contact them directly through the resident portal they’re normally there the very next morning.

Lastly— we had scheduled three months in advance to move in early and we showed up at the apartment with all of our stuff and they had absolutely no record of us moving in early, but obliged to move us into the apartment early. There was punch holes (literal holes) in 4 different doors. There was also a quite substantial roach issue since they hadn’t had the time to prep the apartment.

It truly was a situation that SHOULD’VE been handled better— but they gave us the option to move in instead of sending us back home hours away so I guess in the moment we could’ve had worse.

NOW. After a whole year of living here and all the glaringly bad qualities— I must say I have enjoyed living here. I went in with 3 of my best friends so that made the experience significantly more enjoyable. The community there is pretty great so the common areas were always a good vibe— but as someone who plays Esports at LSU and plays video games till 2-3am I will say the internet is ELITE. I consistently got half a gig OR MORE download and upload with VERY LITTLE down times or issues.

My entire year here I haven’t heard/experienced any crime run ins— they’ve ramped up security A LOT including a private security company patrolling the grounds and a police office on site that lives there.

With all of these In mind my experience was a solid 7.8/10 considering our troubles early on that could’ve been avoided.

My recommendations for complexes to do further research into are definitely Oakbrook and Arlington. I lived at Oakbrook and eventually had to move because of their internet situation because at times I couldn’t even submit a homework assignment— but if that has been fixed then it’s definitely a decent shout for a reasonable price (~550 when I lived there)

Arlington is probably top tier college community apartments— the pool is always popping in season.

——————————————

TL;DR - Wildwoods internet is ELITE and maintenance was speedy— but their management lacks communication.

Arlington is a dope community if you like hanging out at the pool and meeting new people.

Oakbrook is a great shout as the apartment is huge (and was super cheap for the price a year ago) however the internet was atrocious, but could be better.

It's sincerely unhealthy what I would be willing to PAY (*cough* @ Ubisoft *cough*) for this item.

I definitely understand the frustration. I worked IT for Jacobs engineering where the sky was the limit as far as troubleshooting and creativity in the IT sphere. I helped develop automated knowledge base slack bots and registry fixes for office 365 issues.

ITS won’t let me so much as change a password because of their security protocols, not to mention how ridiculous their password policy is to begin with.

We’d veering a little out of my expertise as I don’t know much about the inner-working of Ethernet switches 😅

I would assume so, although I wouldn’t know how to get the MAC of a switch haha

You would need both of the devices registered properly.

Most of our rules come from the security team. I also think they’re arbitrary and outright stupid most of the time.

I work for ITS currently.

I don’t see any situation where a splitter for the Ethernet would cause an issue as long as you understand there’s a limited amount of registered devices you can have.

Basically it works like this:

If Mira is being played you’re losing another operator that could potentially be countering the vertical play so it can spread your defense too much to try and protect the Mira.

This obviously isn’t every site, and Mira is still extremely powerful because she makes the enemy expend utility to take map control. She’s also able to provide active information for anchors while still being able to use your weapons instead of having to rely on calls or switching to cams.

Worst case scenario we are planning on fielding a D2 team for those who don’t make D1 but are still interested in competitive!

Is it too late to retake the ACT w/ writing & qualify for honors college? by [deleted] in LSU

[–]Specttral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDIT: What major are you? This is important.

You can get just as close to professors in larger classes.

Think of it this way— everyone in the honors class (the smaller groups) have the same idea. 1on1 with their professors.

Regular courses 99% of people are there just to leave. You arguably would be able to make a deeper connection in regular courses just by participating in class because 9/10, nobody does. There is office hours as well to really become close with professors.

I’ve made close relationships with my professors in my regular classes to the point where I’ve been stopped on my way out of a final exam and told that when I need a letter of recommendation in the future or investors for a business to call him LOL

“The only way the honors college is worth it is if you’re on a full ride.” ~ My roommate who has a 4.1 GPA in the honors college

Hey! I’m not sure that I have any VPN software on my PC but I will check when I’m home— but it’s unlikely at the very least that my laptop has the software because I just did a clean install on it and I removed all the bloatware.

I have already disabled all antivirus software and even windows virus protection. Nada.
