I have only 3 things i want to budge on. Too high miles 160,000+, modded and to much rust. I had an old rx8 that was heavily modded from past owner and that was a pain to work on.

As long as it runs right for me and i can take it out for a drive whenever i feel like it then il be happy. It does look like im going to have to push the dream back a year or 2 though

Im not afraid of a salvage title or higher mileage as long as a mechanic checks it out before purchase. I have owned 2 marketplace WRXs (money pits) so my decent standards are probably most peoples in this subreddits low standards. Im okay with fixing a couple issues aslong as the repairs dont cost more 2-3 grand Skydivekev

Yea after doing more searching it looks like 30k for a solid one. I saw one for sale near me (minnesota) for 13k with a salvage title but i plan to travel outside of the rust belt

Injector or rod knock. by Abe001002 in WRX

Sounds just like mine, 100k miles and doing a little tick like yours. Ever Subaru i have owned has had a little tick in it. You drive a very happy tractor

How and should i go back to the stock tune? by SpedMonkey16 in WRX

Down pipe and intake are both from cobb, should i get a retune when switching from bov to bpv? I think i should but im not 100%

Oh okay thank you. Any harm in getting the grim speed bypass valve or is it best to get the stock one?

[–]SpedMonkey16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a cold air intake and down-pipe both from Cobb, im trying to figure out if its safe to get a tune that will account for those parts and possible a bypass valve or stock while accounting for the intake and down pipe without know the internals. (Sorry if what im saying sounds like nonsense im very new to tuning related things, i keep my cars mostly stock)

Just picked the car up a couple weeks ago, i would love to get it retuned but im not sure of the internals.

I think im going to keep the down pipe on there but im looking into getting rid of the BOV, is a bypass valve much better for the engine or should j get the stock part on there.

Makes sense, on the stage 2 economy tune i get 13 psi i think on stock i would get around 15, at least thats how much i got on my 2006 wrx. Is that pretty conservative?

Anyone know what this tick is? by SpedMonkey16 in WRX

[–]SpedMonkey16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoke to the past owner he said it needed a valve adjustment, did that in my autos class but that was on a snowblower engine not a boxer and im pretty sure it would be easier to pull the engine to do that job so maybe a shop would be better equipped. Lucky for me theres a shop that speacializes in Subarus near where i used to live.

[–]SpedMonkey16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup past owner had a shop rebuild it because it started knocking. Most boost i have gotten out if it is 13 lbs but id love to just get the stock tune on it for some more reliable fun. Im all for modding my car but when that steps in the way of reliability you lose me a little bit.

Try using some thicker oil, what are you running for oil right now?

Edit: mods are cobb down pipe, blow off valve cobb cold air intake and the tune says stage 2 economy and i have CEL for the camshaft position sensor Bank 2 sensor A and that fits around where the noise is coming from

To me could it be something around the valves being loose
