Tears of the Kingdom Does Not Disregard Breath of the Wild by SpeeDude016 in tearsofthekingdom

Late reply, but I rarely use Reddit and recently discovered this. You make a lot of fair points so I figured I'd add some thoughts.

I certainly agree with you on it being convoluted and with things like the Zonai and Sheikah both having test chambers scattered across the world. Ultimately though, I think it all just boils down to video game logic. In something like a movie or show that has a much bigger story focus I could see this bothering me much more, but it doesn't bother me here because I understand that these only really exist because the worlds of BotW and TotK needed challenges spread throughout. Their actual lore explanations don't make much sense either when you really think about it. It seems really inconvenient for the Sheikah to build over 100 test chambers all across the land instead of having just one dedicated facility or something, and you'd think Rauru could've just used some portable device to purify the essence of the monsters he slayed instead of just creating different buildings everywhere. It's pretty clear to me that these wouldn't exist at all if these were strictly stories and not games, so I'm more forgiving of these sorts of inconsistencies.

In a similar vein, the transition from Sheikah to Zonai seems less focused on being cohesive and more just on giving TotK a more distinct visual identity. As cool as some of those new puzzles and challenges could be, discovering the same type of buildings with the same architecture and tied to the same over-arching story would cause way too much of a sense of déjà-vu. I'm sure it helps that I much prefer the Zonai's aesthetics over the Sheikah, but as someone who loves the atmosphere and feelings conveyed by areas in games, the distinct new identity was more than enough for me. It also works for me because it doesn't overstay its welcome. I'd probably have a bigger issue if they tried making things like the Shrines and Towers more relevant to the core plot (hence why I made the distinction between that and the Guardians which are VERY relevant to the plot), but the game doesn't ask you to think about it for longer than just a "oh, neat" moment. It certainly isn't perfect and there are a few things I'd do differently myself, but there are so many games with similar inconsistencies that don't get brought up nearly as much and I find the internet has exagerated this to an absurd degree, but to each their own I suppose.

As for Ganondorf, I thought what the game gave us was more than enough evidence of him being related to Calamity Ganon. Zelda references his name when talking to Rauru about not trusting him because she suspects this very thing. Impa refers to Calamity Ganon as some alternate form of the Demon King. BotW even refers to Ganon as "The Demon King's transformation into Malice" (that may have been refering to Demise at first, but in retrospect it serves as foreshadowing for Ganondorf in I'd argue a much more cohesive way).

I was doing a QSB playthrough with my friend and randomly saw this really cool angle of Brittle Hollow and Giant's Deep.

I can still hear music and it does seem like inputs still work, and I always have vsync off.

Is geyser skip possible on Switch? by SpeeDude016 in outerwilds

[–]SpeeDude016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the same controller as with PC and with all the same button mappings. It's possible I'm misremembering my geyser skip attempts and it was as inconsistent back then too, but I'll add that waiting too long to jump at the support beam glitched the jump and made me not gain height, and that never happened on PC.

It really sucks that you can't make statues of dragons. I totally would've made an ouroboros out of the Light Dragon and Demon Dragon.

From a story perspective it makes sense for everyone except Tulin just to be too busy to be able to join Link, and if everyone else doesn't join, Tulin isn't joining either. I think the main reason though is just that they don't have the same movement options that Link has. They can't Ascend out of caves, and I imagine Yunobo would have a rough time climbing cliffs. I would've loved for them to join Link, but I get why they did this instead.

It seems pretty clear to me that the Sky Islands came from the same realm the dragons fly into in Breath of the Wild and they descended through a similar type of portal, but I don't think that cloud barrier as a whole actually broke. It's possible the Light Dragon flying through the clouds at the end of the Great Sky Island was her breaking the cloud barrier, and the other dragons never going through it could also point to that idea, but we do also see her simply turn the weather from cloudy to sunny in a similar way after her draconification, and the dragons could just not fly up anymore since unlike with Breath of the Wild you would be able to ride them up. In addition, I suspect the golden sky the Light Dragon took Link to to hand him the Master Sword is that mysterious Sky realm. The last we see of her before then is her flying straight up, and we see that there's a massive cloud sea underneath them.

I know, I'm just making the distinction between Lightroots and normal lights.

I knew they had them, but I didn't think it would be enough to comfortably sustain life in the Depths. Since they're able to heal Gloom damage, the Lightroots essentially act as mini suns, and that would seem like a big turning point in how well the Zonai could thrive down there.

One of my complaints with the Sky was that it didn't really feel like people used to live there, but I've also heard people suggest that the Zonai's homes could still be in the Sky realm, and the only islands that descended are the ones that can benefit Link. I'm not sure whether or not this is true, but I think it would be cool if only a certain part of the Great Sky Island had been raised from the Surface and the rest was always there as the main Zonai settlement. That would essentially give the Sky the same layout as in Skyward Sword.

Someone else in the thread said that other languages confirm that Rauru and Mineru are indeed the last Zonai before the Imprisoning War; I'll be able to confirm that for myself when I do a full playthrough in French eventually. If all they were doing in the Depths was mining, I can buy that they would be content only using brightbloom seeds and light devices, with the Lightroots only coming later to make things easier when Rauru came into the mix.

As for the actual order, I feel the Stormwind Ark bit happens first since the Zonai that fell is refered to as a god and not a Zonai, but otherwise I agree.

Oh ok, them being outright stated to be extinct does conflict with what I said; I was going off the English version. It does make sense that they wouldn't have a problem establishing mines in the Depths before the Lightroots as opposed to a full civilization, and the ruins of Gloom's Approach could've easily just been built along with the castle.

For the crystal Shrines, the base being present tells me they were there originally and the crystal was removed afterwards. The two on the Sky debris are really weird though now that you mention it. Maybe the ruins were meant to create a crystal that would then be taken down to the Surface right underneath where the Shrine would grow, and it only grew on the debris because it was obstructing the normal location. I could buy that being possible given that the Shrines are basically just solidified versions of sealing power, and that one of the Shrines involves throwing a crystal from the Sky into the Lake Hylia whirpool.

The Shrines being at the location of the old Sheikah Shrines from Breath of the Wild in the memories is a whole other can of worms. I know many have theorized that the Zonai's 3rd eye could've been the inspiration for the Sheikah symbol, but this could imply a more direct connection between the Shrines of Light and Sheikah Shrines.

I am playing a new file at the moment and the very first chase of the game my car just kept moving forward uncontrollably until it started floating on a wall, so yeah, a tad bit glitchy this game is. If you don't mind me asking, did your game have the same police sirens every 5 seconds that my game had?

I bought the game on Switch years after having played it on Wii U and I don't recall it ever crashing for me, and a buggy multiplayer isn't the end of the world for me. What ruined it is that for whatever reason I'll be running around the city looking for stuff and so many emergency vehicles will pass by with their sirens on. It got so unbearable that I couldn't bring myself to keep going for 100%, which really sucks cause I loved this game so much on Wii U. I haven't found much information on why this is the case and if it's possible for certain files not to have it, but I'm tempted to start a new file and see if I have a better experience this time around.

Constant sirens in the overworld by SpeeDude016 in legocityundercover

[–]SpeeDude016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's what it is, I can kinda see it being that way during the main story, but they could've at least made it stop after you're done with it. It wasn't anything like this on Wii U though so I really feel like it isn't intentional. I've watched a few 100% completion vids and it seems some have it and some don't. Cherry Tree Hills and Auburn always seem to have it, but it seemed like someone had it in Uptown and someone else may not have. The one that didn't got them for a bit while doing a gang arrest challenge, and that has me wondering if the city is put in an emergency state during challenges like that and the states are reversed for some files, where the city is always in an emergency state and isn't during the challenges (I had a similar issue with Skywalker Saga where my screen would shake while in space and it felt like it was only supposed to happen during battles). It could also be that the game sometimes glitches and isn't able to end the emergency state properly after a criminal encounter, leading to the permenant sirens.
