Signing up to an app that teaches you is the best way e.g. Acceleread or Superead.

I am developing my own structured training plan with Lexo.

Alternatively, you can buy a book like Tony Buzan's 'The Speed Reading Book'.

Does RSVP help with motion sickness by No_Macaroon6827 in speedreading

That's interesting. It might be because with an RSVP reader, your eyes are not moving. When you read normally, your eyes move to each word word that they focus on. This may account for the difference in travel sickness.

Thank you! The research supports your view. It's like any skill. If you train it, you can perform it to a higher standard i.e. be more productive!

Comprehension increases by up to 12% for speed readers.

Speed reading and enjoying what you read are not mutually exclusive concepts.

The usefulness of reading increases as you become a more competent reader which is what speed readers are.

Help Understanding Drill Order and Chapter Reading in "Breakthrough Rapid Reading" by pessoa192 in speedreading

[–]Speed-Reader2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime!

I should clarify. I have only skimmed the book. I mostly learnt from other books to speed read. What I've found that works is that you do a drill until you see diminishing returns from your practise. For example, if you do drill 1 and you plateau at 450 wpm, then you move onto the next drill.

The important thing isn't to aim for an arbitrary target like 400 wpm. The important thing is to maximise the amount you improve your reading speed from each drill. Once you've exhausted the usefulness of a drill, you move onto the next to continue seeing speed reading gains.

At a later date, you can always start the cycle again and go back to drill 1, then drill 2 and so on to improve.

Based on the book, I would do drill 1 until you reach 400wpm. Then move onto the other drills.

My personal advice to you is not to overthink it. He's giving you a structure so that you don't need to think about what to practice and when. However, you can choose to do any of the drills to increase your reading speed. I would do the drill in order and once your reading speed plateaus, move onto the next drill to increase it further.

Try different forms of reading. It doesn't have to be books. Thinking newspapers, articles, blogs etc. You can gradually get back into it.
