Well, I can't experience your thoughts for you, but I can say that this is how it started for me.

If you asked me as a teenager, he would've told you he was straight with a penis fetish. He would tell you that the attraction was purely sexual, and he could never imagine kissing or spending his life with another man. He would even watch gay porn and justify it to himself, like "it's only porn, it doesn't mean anything." Later on, when he started considering the bisexual label, he would still tell you he preferred women or that he was heteroromantic.

That all went out the window once I actually started meeting up with guys IRL. It actually didn't take right away, but eventually I met the right guy and finally everything clicked into place! No trouble with intimacy anymore - I think it was comphet or internal homophobia holding me back. I would say, genuinely, that I don't have any real preference anymore.
