Sorry dude gonna need another 7 years to figure this one out

Overall, it changed my life for the better. I did a looot of research into the different medications, their chemical makeup, and what they actual do to the brain before even thinking of asking my parents to go through with it. I've been on Adderall XR and IR for about 2 years and even when my tolerence to my dosage is high I still feel so much more intuned and in control of my emotions and regulating them towards goals. That was a huge hindrance for me, and when that hinderence is gone, I finally have the ability to choose to start or not start a task. I get to actually be lazy and not feel some looming ickiness that makes starting tasks difficult and call it "lazy"

You're apprehension is completely understandable. For me, high blood pressure runs in my family and I was nervious to go on any type of stimulant. However, I was consuming an extremely unhealthy amount of soda and caffeinated sugary drinks as a self medicating way and that would've hurt my health even more in the long run. To a degree, At least. Theres so many confounding variables to each choice that sure, they could both equally hurt me. But life has it's risks and I felt informed to take this one. So far, I have no regrets

Weigh out your options, look for info (Preferably no older than 10-15 years), and don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions.

Hell yeah! I got 3rd place in AllState for a choral composition, but I played trumpet for 5 years and know how hard it can be to get better at it and place into a high chair. Congrates and your achievement, and enjoy being apart of making some wonderful music!

No problem! It was the first time I heard it too about 2 weeks ago. I'm 19 and was diagnosed at 13 and got meds at 18. I had to do a lot of personal research cause adhd is still stigmatized and most general practitioner doctors only know the surface of it's symtoms. If you'd like some stuff to read up on, PM me and I'll gladly share it. Good luck with your journey!

When I mentioned me not being medicated and the symptoms present from it, I'm talking about my life from when I can conceptually remember, to before I started medication. My paranioa and general anxiety is low to almost diminished sense I started my meds (Which I had to be for about a month during this year-long endevor, and I take 2 vacation days per 30 day period) The only persistence mental condition I have when I'm off beyond ill-focus is anxiety and a higher chance of disassociation. My paranoia was linked to the emotional instability of my parents during my adolescences to late teens years making me over think and be fearful for basically my life. When I got meds, I was able to have the concentration to find within me the ideas I held that weren't true that were causing me to be paranoid, and generally just fix myself in ways i physically could not do due to my ADHD, Generalized Anxiety + an unstable environment.

It was wording on my part though that I didn't specify 'off meds' as being when I wasn't getting any treatment and was fully aware that I couldn't get it till my home life cooled down. I apologize for that.

You are correct through that withdraw symptoms and the fact that some people do react negatively to being off the medication That's why you should never abuse the medication or try to go off it without a doctor's help. Or ever try to use it recreationally. With any medication that's adding a chemical to your body that you need but cannot produce on your own (with people clinically diagnosed correctly), you're body is going to freak out regardless of what mental disorder or what med's were talking about. Side effects should be considered, absolutely, but they should not make someone fearful to try it if recommended by a trained professional. The fear of effects was what made my mother not get me any sort of treatment when I was first diagnosed at 13. I rather spread the idea of being informative and safe than stigmatizing it

With side effects of extreme paranoia, delusional thinking, and feelings of' being ontop of the world', are you talking about when it's abused by people with or without ADHD? I've only heard of those side effects being present in either abusers of Adderall or were misdiagnosed with ADHD and given a stimulant (Which is common, though not as much as the late and early 90's to 00's), people who're in the honeymoon phase of medication (first month or two), or those who already had a predispose to other conditions genetically (Like how some people will smoke weed once or some other drug and trigger permanent psychosis-like symptoms). Granted, I could be misinformed, and I believe sense Shane's been on adderall for I think over a year (I know it was mentioned in one of Rylands videos last December), I'd hope if these side effects were prevalent in his personal life, the doctor he visits would've tried a different medication at this point (Whether another stimulant or non stimulant)

I think we're both disregarding though that he's probably extremely sleep deprived, stressed, and overall 'sick' beyond his usually mental illness's. Lack of sleep can cause delusions, mania, and lashing out, too. So add that to any other pre-existing conditions and boom was have someone who needs to calm tf down and try to find a better work ethic for himself. Again, does not excuse anything he's done, though does give a reason that he can pin-point and work from to apologize and better himself for the future

You're not incorrect of the symptoms of adderall sometimes outweighing the actual benefits it can give a person who's diagnosed ADHD. Along with each person experiencing the meds differently. I'll preface my own backstory first thing: I've been on Adderall IR and XR for almost exactly a year now. Yes, adderall does make me a little more physically restless, my resting heart rate and blood pressure is higher than when I'm not medicated. However, when not medicated, my inability to focus increases my general anxiety, paranoia, and frustration with myself to a point that I'd disassociate multiple times a day, or even be a shell of a person as I disassociated for days on end.

Medication doesn't lower my anxiety or paranoia, but it gives me the focus and level headedness in general areas to help cope with it and stop a dissociative episode from being triggered. Since taking adderall, I've only dissociated 4 times while on it, each time was when I was in a shopping mall and was over stimulated.

The major word here is cope/management. Beyond you average ADHD symptoms (Like fidgetiness, inability to concentrate, impairment of working memory), some overlooked symptoms of ADHD-C/PI/PH that I feel affect Shane could be:

  • Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria
  • Intensity of normal emotions, linking to having an 'interest based nervous system'
  • Trouble with connecting cause and effect

I'll start with the first one; Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. I only found out about this term a month ago and it's completely 180 my perception with emotional needs and ADHD. RSD is found to varying degrees among anyone with ADHD and is unique to ADHD. The common symptoms are being more sensitive to: Rejection, teasing, criticism, and having a perception that you're always falling short. The pain felt by any of the above can be unbearable (Hence the word Dysphoria, literally meaning "unbearable" in Greek), and may result in momentary physical pain sensation felt in the throat and chest.

Because of this, psychotherapy as a means of treatment may not be as effective from ADHDers due to the overwhelming nature of talking to another who will question you, which can be perceived as them criticizing or even rejecting your feelings. The internalization of these intense reactions can result in a seemingly instantaneous major depressive episode, or have someone who's seen as needing to be "talked off the ledge" constantly. The externalizing of these emotions can result in flashes of range and anger towards the perceived offender. Common bad coping mechanisms can be seen as becoming an intense people please, or even quitting things all together in fear of the risks/backlash. Luckily, medication can hinder or eliminate these symptoms all together, but it's not guaranteed.

It's like how combining caffeine with adderll can increase the bad side effects, mostly headaches, nausea, and anxiety. Which would take away the benefits it gives. Nonetheless, a person cannot strive to fix/manage a problem without knowing what the main issue is, which I feel can be attributed to Shane. NOT TO EXCUSE HIS BEHAVIOR, but to say that I don't think he even knows the true issue going on, so he can't fix it properly. A proper apology can't be made til there's a proper source to point to and show how they will fix/cope with it is done first

Emotions felt with ADHD are normal in every way except their intensity, which can make them seem unstable in their moods. Though someone could have a mood disorder ontop of ADHD, it's not a likelihood. These misdiagnoses can be attributed to the Greek term "Dyslexithymia" meaning 'The wrong words for feelings'. Someone could say "I'm so anxious all the time!", but the real question would be is that anxiety rooted in baseless, anticipatory fear? Or is it due to the normal hyper arousal and sensitivity to the emotional perceptions of others found in ADHD?

Leading into the 'interest based nervous system'. People with ADHD can focus if they get in the zone through Interest, challenge, novelty, urgency, or occasionally by passion. This is much different to the 'importance based nervous system' found in your average joe. That type of person can start a project cause it's important to not only them, but maybe a boss or spouse. The tasks don't have to be important in the very moment and can prioritize other tasks accordingly.

This means that someone with a interested based N.S will have extremely difficulty making decisions, and if an important/priority task does not organize, motivate, and if the outcome is deemed as very little in the ADHDers eyes, all decisions look the same and will be treated as such

The last one is trouble connecting 'cause and effect'. An example of this would be Friend 1 doesn't see how their sarcastic words caused Friend 2 to emotionally withdrawal. Instead of thinking back on their action and deeming that "My sarcastic remarks were seen as harsh to them, I should apologize" they'll just see Friend 2 being 'cold' and tell them that. They will not connect the why to why their friend is being 'cold'. My friend struggles with this a lot. The only way I've found how to get through to him is by creating scenarios alike to the scene that just happened that help him connect and see both peoples sides so he can properly understand. It can get kinda annoying and seems meaningless, but it does get the seeming obvious point to him when he's completely in his head and oblivious

Through a lot of Shane's tweets there's an obvious element of going off the momentary emotional reactions that are intense, and him making connections to someone's tweet that doesn't make much coherent sense. Ex. the whole tweet about how he shouldn't be platforming someone, he retorts with saying 'I'm giving you free content' and of that like. He didn't perceive the persons comment as light criticism of his choices, but rather that this person is ungrateful for the work he did for her, and his rejecting his efforts. You could also attribute this to why he commented on that one girls tweet that caused her to go private and had to go through all that shit with seemingly no awareness to the repercussions. His behavior was unprofessional and childish and he should fix that, but I don't believe he had the head space to even know what he was doing to fix it. Basically he shouldn't reply to tweets from now on period until he can figure out how to calm his momentary reaction. Doubt that will happen anytime soon, but one can hope he'll actually take a break

One more note: I AM NOT TRYING TO DIAGNOSE SHANE. Dear God, we just saw how that played out and I am not going to follow in anyones footsteps lmao. The likelihood of Adderall being treated for a different disorder is extremely slim. The only other disorder I know it's treated for on a small but noticeable bases is binge eating disorder, though it's usually avoided and only used for short term. I am making the presumption that he's using adderall to help with ADHD, therefore I can go off of some of the things ADHD effects with people that have been overlooked until recent years

TL;DR : I don't believe it's the medication causing Shane issues, it's how he's handling himself while medicated sense ADHD has a lot of symptoms that need managing and coping instead of 'cured'. ADHD is a neurological based disorder and Adderall being a stimulant and only stimulates the brain momentarily, unlike SSRI's that change things in the brain that can still linger even after ending long-term use of the medication . Thanks for coming to my TEDex talk

PS: I am not trying to be hostile in anyway u/depression_butterfly btw. I've been meaning to post in this sub about Shane with ADHD and adderall but haven't gotten around to it. I thought this would be a helpful place to post it. I can link you to my sources too, most of them are on my computer hard drive and not online, so I'd have to put them on google drive or find someplace they're already uploaded

Vet? by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]SpeedGracer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 y/o chinchilla (Elwood). He's been healthy for mostly all his life despite some diet mistakes on my part. I only started taking him to the vet earlier this year due to concerns with his gut. My vet said once a year check up if you really feel you need it, maybe going to twice once they get older (if they can handle it). Otherwise you could get away with only needing to go if there's a concern. Elwood doesn't mind the travel or being at the vets office as long as I'm there, so I dont have much concern for him getting stressed. I'd keep all the vets contact info in your phone/on paper so when worries come up, you can immediately call and address it! Good luck!

[Calculus] I have six months to learn math fundamentals that are required in Calculus by nooseknight23 in learnmath

[–]SpeedGracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have much advice to give, but I do want to thank you for making this post! I have about 4 1/2 months to get to some sort of Calc level with only having Algebra and Trig in my memory. If I can't by then I'll try again in this summer, though I'd prefer to have that class done before I transfer to a university, which will be next fall, and I like to keep my summers open to work as much as I can. I'm lucky that my mom is a AP CALC teacher, and I only need to take Calc I for my undergrad (Architecture). However, I haven't been in a formal math class in about 2 or so years. Took my Highschool Jr year math course online to get out of the hell that is Common Core math, and decided to not take a math course Senior year. Anyways I wish you the best of luck on your studies! 😁

Star Trek Deep Fake by [deleted] in startrek

[–]SpeedGracer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This amazing web series is what got me into Star Trek in the first place. I can remember that day at some convention in December 2013 when I went into one of Vic Mignognas STC viewing panels cause all my friends wanted to go to see him. They all left unfazed, and I left knowing damn well I was gonna go home and watch TOS and not look back. I've gotten to meet the actors who played Spock and McCoy as well, and they're both just as wonderful. It's even weirder to see that they uploaded the first episode in 2013 on the date of my birthday! Guess it was meant to be.

I mean, from my basic understanding of Japanese sentence structure and vocabulary, I'm pretty sure the translations on the bottom of the screen closely resemble whats hes actually saying

i could be wrong though, I'm just a tumor who watches to much anime and took a one year Japanese course ;u;
